We Would Be Building
By John Edgerton
February 28, 2023

One of my favorite hymns is “We Would Be Building.” In particular, I love the line “ribbed with fine steel, both time and change to mock.” It’s a stirring and wonderful hymn about dreaming of a future God envisions for us, all viewed through the metaphor of a church building. For someone who spends a great deal of time inside the church building, it’s right up my alley! It makes me dream big every time I hear it.

Perhaps you’ve heard through the grapevine that First United is doing a capital campaign and that it has something to do with the roof. Or perhaps you’ve been part of the listening sessions that we’ve held over the past twelve months to learn what the members of the church are dreaming of for this community.

I’m excited to announce that starting this Sunday, Church Council and the pastors will be presenting the vision for our capital campaign developed this past year. We will share the financial goal of the campaign, our strategy for getting there, and what projects and priorities are included.

These will be held at 9:45 in Centennial Hall. We will hold this session four times: March 5, March 12, March 19, and March 26. We are doing it this way so that everyone in the church can hear about the exciting direction for our church being planned.
