Thank you, Blanche for your lovely St. Patrick's Day cards! You do not have to write tens of letters, and you don't have to spend hours on each one. As long as you put love and care into each note, your letters have the power to encourage and bring joy to the seniors we serve!

Happy Sunday, Shreya!

I hope you are having a wonderful weekend. Last cycle we wrote to 98.8% of the seniors we serve! Isn't that incredible! If you're connected to a nursing home or meals on wheels program, why not reach out to them and tell them about LAI? We're trying to find community partners in all 50 US states before our 2nd birthday!

We're adding some new faces to the spreadsheet. Keep an eye out for new homes in New York, California, Utah, South Dakota, and Arkansas! Let's make sure to show them some love this cycle!

This week on the blog...

I am sharing fun facts and trivia! I hope these make you smile and inspire your letters! I think that these will get the seniors thinking! Here's a sneak preview of one of the fun facts:

If you folded a piece of paper in half 42 times, it would reach the moon! Here is a challenge for you: how many times can you do it? I reached 6!

What Does LAI Mean to YOU?

LAI's BIG BIRTHDAY BASH is just around the corner! We are so excited to celebrate all of the terrific things we've achieved together in our second year of running during our Zoom party on April 9 from 5 - 6:30 EST! Click the link below to RSVP!

To celebrate our big birthday, we are putting together a video where volunteers, seniors, and care home staff share what LAI means to them and how it has impacted them.

If you would like to submit a clip, please do so! Here are the instructions:

  1. Film a short video (please try to keep no longer than 1-2 minutes)
  2. Introduce yourself! Share your first name and the city/state/country you are in. Let's show off our global community!
  3. Tell us how long you've been volunteering for.
  4. A few ideas for what to talk about:
  5. How did you get involved in LAI?
  6. What does LAI mean to you?
  7. Why did you get involved in LAI?
  8. Why do you think the mission of LAI is so important?
  9. Show off some of the letters and cards you've written!
  10. Close by saying "HAPPY BIRTHDAY LAI!"
  11. Email your video to lai.birthdaybash@gmail.com

I will edit all of the videos together and we will debut the video at our BIG BIRTHDAY BASH!

In the News...

As we mentioned in last weekend's newsletter, LAI has created six public art murals around MA and RI where you can go out and write a postcard to a senior!

In just a week since opening, we've had hundreds of postcards collected at each of the sites. Thank you to all the volunteers who came out to support us!

This week, the murals were in the news! I headed over to the instillation in Boston's seaport district to do an interview with CBS News.

As a reminder, you can find the murals...

  • Seaport District, Boston, MA
  • Derby Street Shops, Hingham, MA
  • Legacy Place, Dedham, MA
  • Market Street, Lynnfield, MA
  • The Street, Chestnut Hill, MA
  • Garden City Center, Cranston, RI

Thank you for choosing to volunteer with us. We are always so amazed by the incredible work each of you do.

Have fun writing,

Saffron and Shreya
