Applies to
All HMIS users that upload participant files to HMIS.
Effective Date
These changes will go into effect on Monday, September 21st, 2026.
Notice of Change Overview
LAHSA has completed a review of all the current file upload categories and names in HMIS, and will be making several changes to streamline the list of available options on September 21st, 2026. These changes also include feedback from the provider superuser community, as well as program leadership.
Changes
All file categories and names in HMIS have been reviewed to either remain as is, change the category, rename the file, or be deactivated. To review the list of final file categories and names (including changes), please see the document on the LAHSA website titled “2026 Changes to HMIS File Categories and Names”.
There is no need to change existing files in HMIS. These changes will apply automatically to all historical files. Any file categories or names that were deactivated will still be visible on existing files (but no new files can be created with those categories/names).
Reporting Implications
- Any Looker reports built to filter for specific file categories or file names that have changed will no longer return any results. These reports would need to be updated to align with the updated categories/names.
-
Historical reporting: File categories and names that were deactivated can still be viewed in HMIS on the client records and can also be pulled via Looker.
Service Provider Action
- If any Looker reports were created to filter for specific file categories or names, these reports will need to be reviewed to see if they need to be updated to align with the changes being made.
