Dear Community Engagement Panelists,
At the recent San Clemente City Council meeting, serious concerns were raised about damaged canisters at San Onofre. The evidence is clear: photos show damage to canister #72, and testimony confirms that the gouge on canister #19 is “huge” and demands closer scrutiny.
SCE has already agreed to conduct visual inspections in order to obtain their coastal permit. Our request could not be simpler: release the photos and allow independent experts to evaluate them. Without transparency, trust erodes — and suspicion only grows.
Before SCE’s “educational seminar” on October 16th, the public deserves full access to these photos so we can have an honest, fact-based discussion about the safest path forward. This is not about blame — it’s about cooperation, accountability, and protecting our community.
If SCE has nothing to hide, then showing the photos should be the easiest step they can take. Without them, any further discussion is meaningless — and the court of public opinion will judge their silence as obstruction.
Please stand with us in making this reasonable request. Add your voice to those listed below who call for safety first, and let SCE know that the community expects honesty, not secrecy.
Thank you,
Gary Headrick
To avoid any technical difficulties at the next CEP meeting on 8/28, here are two very short videos relevant to this problem which were unable to be shown previously.
