Travel Show Recap: The 2024 Travel Show Season Has Begun with the Pittsburgh Travel Showcase!

Last weekend, NYSTIA exhibited at Pittsburgh's only dedicated travel and tourism marketing event, the 2024 Pittsburgh Travel Showcase Presented By AAA Travel.

The three-day showcase saw many dedicated travelers looking to plan their next New York State vacation. Attendees were interested in destinations across the state and enjoyed the variety of guides we offered.

  • The New York State Economic Development Council has released an updated Budget Summary, which includes significant investments in tourism by providing $58.5 million for the State's robust tourism and advertising campaigns, an additional round of $15 million in competitive funding through the Market NY Program, and matching grants to assist counties and municipalities in local tourism efforts, the I Love NY marketing campaign, and other targeted investments.
  • Mark Dorr, President of NYSHT&A has spent considerable time reviewing the proposed executive budget and has generously offered to share his perspective on issues of strategic importance to members of New York State's tourism industry. All are invited to join our free webinar tomorrow, January 24 at 1:00 pm E.T. for a special NYS budget briefing.

NOAA Brings Erie Canal Nautical Charts into the Digital Era

Paper charts of the Erie Canal are in the process of being transformed to electronic navigational charts. The Department of Commerce’s National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), which has maintained and updated the charts since the early 1970’s, are converting the charts to digital format and will make them available as electronic navigational charts. Erie Canalway National Heritage Corridor provided images to accompany NOAA's ArcGIS StoryMap about the process.
