Downtown Special Event:  The Purpose of a Corporation

Thursday November 21
12:00 PM - 1:30 PM

Racquet Club of Philadelphia
215 South 16th Street
Philadelphia, PA

The CFAP Sustainable Investment Thought Leadership Group will host its second luncheon at the Racquet Club.  The luncheon will focus on the recent release of the Business Roundtable's new statement on the Purpose of a Corporation.

In August 2019, one hundred and eighty-one of our nation's largest corporate CEOs signed the Business Roundtable statement and embraced the notion that a company has a broader responsibility to society and vowed to consider all stakeholders in making future business decisions. The Purpose of a Corporation statement essentially rejects the writings of the late economist Milton Friedman and his theory that seeking profits for shareholders would alone allow a company to prosper, keep people employed, and fuel the economy.

To understand how this unprecedented event will affect our financial system in the future, we have the great privilege of Mark Pinsky and Jay Coen Gilbert joining us at our luncheon to discuss all aspects of this important issue.

Mark Pinsky, a writer and strategist, led the $150 billion CDFI industry for more than twenty years and recently co-wrote an inspiring book, "Organized Money", about the creation of a new trillion-dollar financial system. Click here to view Mark's bio.

After Jay Coen Gilbert sold AND1, the basketball-apparel company he cofounded, he created B Lab in 2006. B Lab certifies companies for "B Corporation" status, which publicly holds them accountable to stakeholders beyond shareholders, like employees and the environment. There are now more than 2,600 B Corps around the world.
Click here to view Jay's bio.

We are pleased to announce that Allison Clark will be the moderator for the discussion.  Allison is Associate Director, Impact Investing for the $7 billion endowment fund of the MacArthur Foundation. Click here to view Allison's bio.

If you have an interest in the environmental and social aspects of sustainable investing, this event is a must to attend.
