DACULA TO DEDICATE INTERSECTION IN HONOR OF FORMER MAYOR JIMMY WILBANKS
Last week, the City of Dacula announced it will dedicate the intersection of Winder Highway and Harbins Road in Gwinnett County in honor of former Mayor, Jimmy Wilbanks. Wilbanks, a lifelong resident of Dacula passed away last January after a long battle with cancer. He remained the sitting Mayor of Dacula through his illness and until his passing, a seat he has held since 2002.

"Mayor Wilbanks dedicated his life to serving others," said Georgia State Senator P.K. Martin IV. "One of his favorite spots to conduct business was at the Waffle House adjacent to this intersection. I could not think of a better way and more appropriate place to honor one of Dacula's most dedicated public servants."

During the 2019 Legislative Session, Sen. P.K. Martin and Representative Chuck Efstration carried resolutions to name the intersection in Gwinnett County after Wilbanks.

Mayor Wilbanks served as Dacula's Mayor two separate times, the first for eight from 1971 to 1979 and a second term from 2002 until his passing. In addition to holding office, Wilbanks worked for the Georgia Emergency Management Agency's Disaster Relief program for more than 20 years, was an active member and past President of the Gwinnett Municipal Association, and served on the Georgia Municipal Association's Legislative Policy Committee.

The dedication ceremony will take place on Monday, August 12th, 2019 at the Dacula City Hall, 442 Harbins Road, Dacula, GA 30019, at 3pm.
