*CRITICAL NOTICE - 2ND DUES REQUEST*
|
|
The New Jersey Propane Gas Association has received just 28% of dues paid for this year! It cannot be stressed enough that our Association is only as strong as our Members’ participation. Your involvement is valued and essential to ensure the continuation of our safe and competitive propane marketplace.
We hope you have found that your membership in the NJPGA is a valuable business asset that pays “dividends” throughout the year. As always, the NJPGA continues its longstanding commitment to strengthening, promoting and protecting the interests of the propane industry in New Jersey. Through our lobbyist, NJPGA monitors all legislative committees and Senate and Assembly Board lists for any bill that could have a negative or positive impact on the propane industry and then acts in the best interest of the industry. This includes supporting and promoting positive legislation and opposing and securing amendments to protect our industry against troublesome legislation, especially regarding the current Electrification & Decarbonization proposals.
The NJPGA would like to thank Members who actively engage and urge Members who monitor Association activities to become active participants in guiding the LP Gas industry in New Jersey forward.
Your 2022-2023 membership renewal invoice was emailed to you in January. You should receive a 2nd notice of payment in your inbox this week. If you have not already, the NJPGA is requesting you send in your dues payment as soon as possible. It is critical we have a voice in New Jersey and our collective voice includes you!

NPGA LEGISLATIVE UPDATE
by Eric DeGesero, EDGE Consulting
Lucy Holding the Football for Charlie Brown
Today New Jersey Monitor published this story on last week’s 9th Circuit Court of Appeals decision overturning Berkley, CA’s ban on natural gas installations. The 9th Circuit cited the pre-emption language of the Energy Policy & Conservation Act.
The decision is certainly beneficial and instructive, but by no means precedential as New Jersey is not in the 9th Circuit (we are in the 3rd).
Senator Bob Smith (D-Middlesex), who chairs the Senate Environment and Energy Committee and is the leading proponent “Electrify Everything” is quoted in today’s story, “We may have tax incentives to encourage people to do it, and also too, as the cost of renewables continues to decline, maybe the market works in our favor as well, so we’re going to see.”
Unfortunately, Lucy has held this football for Charlie Brown once before.
His “incentive” bill, introduced February 28, 2023, Senate Bill 3672 “requires” beneficial electrification. Webster’s Dictionary defines “require” as meaning “demand” among other terms. I cited this to the reporter as evidenced of being “gas-lighted” but the way the story is written, that message was not conveyed.
The fight against Trenton mandating propane out of business continues apace. Please ask every NJPGA marketer, supplier, distributor, and associate to make a CORPORATE CONTRIBUTION to the NJPGA PAC. Corporations can contribute a maximum of $14,400 to the NJPGA PAC per year. Ask them for as much as they can contribute. It costs $500 to walk into a backbench minority member’s event and $2,500 per leadership event.
Yes, you will be asking for a large request and in some instances you may get pushback. However, ask them to view the request in the context of their company’s future being at stake. Because it is.

What To Keep Your Eye On
On February 15, 2023 Governor Murphy stated:
“Now, let me make one thing perfectly clear at the outset before the right-wing meme-makers go off ...
No one is coming for anyone’s gas stove. No one is walking into anyone’s kitchen. No one is going to be forced to do anything, in any way.”
_______________
Assembly Bill 526 (Freiman/Calabrese/Danielsen) - Regulates how businesses engage in automatic renewals with consumers. Assemblyman Freiman introduced this legislation in response to frustrations consumers have in canceling contracts, especially those that are on-line.
_______________
Assembly Bill 4470 (Egan/DeAngelo) - Under current law, if three or more lanes of traffic are moving in the same direction vehicles 10,000 lbs GVW or greater cannot be in the furthest left lane. This bill reduces that to two lanes. This means every truck in the state must be in the right lane, unless they are turning left, exiting, or there is an emergency.
