Dear ,

As you know, Vermont's nickname is the Green Mountain State. What you may not know is that the origin of the word Vermont came from a c. 1647 map on which French explorer Samuel de Champlain identified the area of Vermont as Verde Mont, French for Green Mountain.
With that etymology in mind, there is saying in Vermont that, "We were green before green was cool" and it is in that spirit that I recently undertook the process of obtaining my Green Designation from the National Association of RealtorsĀ®. What's that?, you ask.
Well, thanks for asking! Pursuing NAR's Green Designation was a way for me to learn about green real estate concepts, energy efficiency, high-performance homes, and the impact and benefits that green properties, energy efficient features and community sustainability all have in our real estate market. My training included course work on what makes a property "green," instruction on how to help clients evaluate the cost/benefits of green building features and practices, distinguishing between industry rating and classification systems, listing and marketing green homes and buildings, discussing the financial grants and incentives available to homeowners, and helping consumers see a property's green potential.
I'm proud to be one of only a couple of dozen Green designees in Vermont and I like to think that I'm in the forefront of our next big trend in real estate. If you have any questions or interest in learning more, please give me a call!
Until then, enjoy the rest of the winter and be sure to get outside and enjoy the snow! Be well and stay in touch.

Weston Playhouse Announces 2018 New Musical Award Winner
The Writing/Composing team of Aryanna Garber and Benjamin Velez are the winners of the Weston Playhouse Theatre's 12th Annual New Musical Award for their musical BORDERLINE. The only award of its kind in the country, the Weston New Musical Award brings the creator or creators of a promising new project together with a small ensemble of actors to rehearse and record selections from the winning score with Grammy winner Kurt Deutsch of Sh-K-Boom Records.
Nominated for the award by Di Glazer of International Creative Management Partners, BORDERLINE is a musical about Anna, a young woman living with Borderline Personality Disorder who struggles to find a semblance of normalcy and intimacy amidst a revolving door of therapists, medications, and dysfunctional relationships. Glazer writes that "Garber's book challenges the stigma of BPD, Velez's lyrics capture the protagonist's inner turmoil and the frustrations of the people she surrounds herself with, and his music works as a form of therapy for all the characters.  Though seen through the lens of a specific disease, BORDERLINE expresses a universal search for honest connections that will resonate with all audiences." BORDERLINE was developed, in part, at the Advanced BMI Musical Theater Workshop.
Weston Associate Artistic Director Michael Berresse will direct the project with Music Director Daniel Green. The cast includes Margo Seibert (Boardwalk Empire, Broadway's ROCKY) as Anna, Derrick Baskin (25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, Memphis), Stephen Bogardus (Bright Star, White Christmas). Leo Ash Evens (School of Rock), and Katie Thompson (City Center's Pump Boys and Dinettes).

There are two free public concerts of selections from BORDERLINE scheduled for Saturday, March 3 at 4 PM and 7 PM at Weston's new second stage, Weston Playhouse at Walker Farm. To reserve your free tickets (general admission) visit the Weston Playhouse online box office.

Green Mountain Gourmet
One-Stop Shop Granola
Sadly, there is not a Trader Joe's in the area, but it's a must-stop for me on any trip to Burlington or Albany. They have a great selection of nuts, seeds and berries and one of my favorite things to make is this easy, hearty, delicious, low-calorie granola. All of the ingredients can be purchased at Trader Joe's!
* 32 oz. rolled oats (one bag)
* 8 oz. dry, unsalted sliced almonds
* 1 package freeze dried raspberries
* 1 package freeze dried blueberries
* 1/4 cup chia seeds
* 1/4 cup canola oil
* 1/4 to 1/2 cup maple syrup (depending on your taste and how sweet you want it)
* 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
* 1 teaspoon salt
  1. Preheat oven to 300 degrees and place two racks as close to or in the middle of the oven.
  2. In a large bowl mix all of the above ingredients and mix very well.
  3. Place a SilPat (or other brand non-stick baking mat) or parchment paper on each of two large sheet pans.
  4. Divide the mixture and spread evenly onto the two sheet pans
  5. Bake for 30 minutes.
  6. Remove pans, stir the granola and spread evenly again, this time switching the pan that was on the upper-middle rack to the lower-middle rack and vise versa.
  7. Drop temperature to 250 degrees and bake for an additional 30 minutes
  8. Remove from oven and let cool completely.
When the granola mix is cool, I usually add another cup or more of other ingredients, depending on what I have available and what flavor profile I'm in the mood for. My favorites include finely chopped crystallized candied ginger, tiny pecan pieces, chopped dried banana chips, or dried unsweetened coconut flakes. Some people may want to add chocolate chips, mini-M&Ms, finely diced unsweetened dried apricots, raisins or Craisins . . . but, I prefer a less-sweet granola.
