Diamondhead Community Church is united by the grace of God

and our faith in Jesus Christ.

OUR MISSION: To glorify God and share the good news of the Gospel with those around us and the world and to welcome all to His church, worshiping and praying together, loving and serving one another as

His disciples.

You have probably heard of people giving up something for Lent. This is because Lent was originally supposed to be a time of fasting. Over time, people tended to give up one thing. I don’t usually give up something for Lent. I think it’s a good idea to add something for Lent that will build me up spiritually. We can add a daily prayer time, or scripture reading, or we can attend Journey to the Cross. Journey to the Cross is a 6-week time of reflection that will meet at Wednesday noon. Participants will enjoy a simple meal and then Pat Whipps will lead us in a time of study and reflection, looking at different aspects of the life of Christ in the time leading up to the cross. You can sign up for this time next Sunday at Church.

And when you come to church, remember that daylight savings times starts. So, it will feel like you are coming to church an hour earlier. Please try to stay awake during the sermon.

Last weekend was a great time. Our church participated in the city Mardi Gras Parade. We did this because we want to start getting our name out into the community. We also hosted an open house, with several first-time visitors attending. Our attendance was 159. It was great to see so many new faces. Remember, if you see a face, you don’t readily recognize, reach out to them and introduce yourself. Welcome them to DCC and introduce them to others. We can especially do this before the service starts because people make judgements about your church as soon as they pull into the parking lot.

A big thank you goes out to Kathryn McAlpin and the Ministry team who pulled off this event. Thanks to all of you who made gumbo. I never had gumbo before I came to Mississippi, but I like it, and all of our gumbos were delicious. Thanks also to those who made or brought King Cake. Our church is gaining momentum in carrying the gospel outside our walls. We all have a role to play in it.

To help us in this, the church is having a Refocus seminar. We basically answer the question, where do we go from here?” As a transitional pastor there is a process, I take the church through. Do you know what that process is? Do you want to know what I am up to? Do you know the things that need to take place before we create a Pastor Search Committee? Do you know what we are trying to form in the hearts of the congregation? All of this will be the content of the Refocus seminar. It will be held on Saturday, March 22 from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM. It will be led by Ron Horgan from the Gulf South Presbytery.

I hope you make time to attend. It will give you an idea of why I am at DCC and what my work involves at the church. I am more than preacher. I am an agent of revitalization and refocusing.

Blessings to you.

Journey to the Cross

but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 5:8

Begins this Wednesday March 12, 2025, at 12 noon.

During the season of Lent, luncheons each Wednesday, where we will examine His journey to the cross for us.

From Pastor Stan: Pat Whipps will lead us in a spiritual exercise and study that draws us near to Jesus and moves us to reflect on what he has done for us. Spirituality and growth in faith is not a passive thing. It requires an investment of our time and focus. The season of Lent affords us an opportunity to focus on Jesus, the object of our faith.

Call the church office or sign-up in the Fellowship Hall.

Our monthly fellowship meal will be held on Sunday, March 16, following the Worship Service. Please sign up in the Fellowship Hall to let us know that you'll be joining us and what dish(es) you plan to bring. We kindly ask that you bring one or two side dishes to share, ensuring we have enough food for everyone. We invite you to join us for a wonderful time of fellowship and sharing fantastic food together!

Library News

The Diamondhead Community Church Library maintains a collection of media for all ages that provides the opportunity for studying, learning, and teaching. It is a resource supporting personal and congregational growth in our Christian faith and living so the members and friends of Diamondhead Community Church continues to foster an environment that “seeks to meet the needs of each other”.

ASH WEDNESDAY, this year, the first Wednesday in March, marks the beginning of the 40-day observance of self-sacrifice and discipline for many Christians, LENT. In March, St. Patrick’s The day is celebrated; it is time to plant greens in our gardens. It is also the month spring arrives, and the outdoor plants begin to grow again. The online seed catalogs have a minimum of five pages of just lettuce, including head, leaf, romaine, loose-leaf, Bibb, and butterhead, along with miscellaneous greens such as escarole, arugula, endive, chard, mustard, cress, and turnip. Note that most producers promise their varieties have superstar status and restaurant quality, are exclusive, and are the easiest to grow. When choosing new varieties of greens, whether planting or purchasing, consider the taste; do you like subtle or bold flavors? How much time do you want to spend preparing greens? Do you like your greens raw, sautéed, stir-fried, steamed, or juiced? When planting, select a variety of days to maturity appropriate for MS, consider the size of the area where the greens will reside, either in a garden plot, window box, or patio container and decide whether to use transplants or seeds. In our area, now is the time to transplant collards and plant beets (beet greens with butter are delicious), Swiss chard, spinach, radishes, and English peas.

Below are tips for preparing greens:

Select only the freshest leafy greens. Eliminate greens with yellowed, wilted leaves. Remove the stems from the greens, place the greens in a large bowl filled with cold water, and agitate. Spin the greens in a salad spinner, drain, and continue until the water is free from any residue. Spread the rinsed greens on several layers of paper towels to dry. Change the paper towel as often as needed to promote thorough drying. Store dry greens in a damp kitchen towel and place the towel in an open plastic bag in the crisper area of the refrigerator. Greens store has been doing very well for up to 3 days.

Green Reminders:

Purchase a pot of Shamrocks for yourself, a friend, or someone who needs cheering. Make a pot of Green Tea and enjoy while updating your garden calendar or journal. Save the water from boiling cabbage on St. Patrick’s Day and give your houseplants a healthy dose of nutrients. Purchase the complete collection (DVD) and enjoy Rosemary & Thyme, a British mystery series. Rosemary Boxer and Laura Thyme are gardeners and detectives who search the gardens of England and Europe for clues to solve their cases. Purchase a packet of green Zinnia seeds.

LIBRARY HOURS — the library is open on Sunday morning before the Church Service and for browsing any day the Church Office is open.

JUST A REMINDER — please completely fill in the information requested on the form found in the white notebook for each book you are borrowing from your library, and when returning the borrowed media, record the date returned. Thank you!
