Call for Nominations

Nominations are requested for a new member to serve on the CORS Executive Committee for the role of Member-at-Large. The Canadian Orthopaedic Research Society (CORS) Executive represents the interests of Canadian Orthopaedic Research nationally and internationally. CORS works in conjunction with the Canadian Orthopaedic Association (COA) to host the annual COA/CORS meetings and works with the Canadian Orthopaedic Foundation to adjudicate research awards based on scientific merit. The term of service is for 5 years (to commence following the 2020 CORS Virtual Annual Meeting). The successful candidate will commence as member at large and transition yearly though the roles of secretary, program chair, president and past-president.

Nomination Process

Nominations are accepted from the CORS Executive Committee and membership at large. The intention of the CORS Executive is to alternate between a basic researcher (PhD) and a clinician-scientist (MD/PhD). The committee is also focused on maintaining geographic diversity within its executive to balance Canadian representation. This year, nominations are requested for a basic science researcher (PhD). The people nominated must attend the CORS Virtual Business Meeting at the COA/CORS Virtual meeting be eligible for the position, and the vote will be carried by the membership present at the virtual Business Meeting.

COVID-19 and Orthopaedics

The Orthopaedic Research Community is greatly impacted by the COVID-19 outbreak. Clinicians and researchers share similar risks and challenges from both a personal and professional standpoint. Specifically, clinicians in the front line have an increased risk of contracting the virus and are currently not afforded the usual access in outpatient clinics and operating rooms to provide routine but essential orthopaedic care. Musculoskeletal care is particularly vulnerable due to practice restrictions due to the high volume of seemingly less urgent cases which make up a bulk of most orthopaedic practices.
