Don't Forget Joy

Luke 2: 10-11

10. But the angel said to them, "Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all people. 11. Today in the town of David a savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord."

During this time of year, when we are surrounded by beautiful light displays, wonderful music, and the mouthwatering smells of Christmas goodies, we are often admonished to remember the "reason for the season". Yes, Christmas has become too commercial (just ask Charlie Brown), and gift buying can get a little out of hand. Yet I find myself wondering, if, as it says in Matthew 18: 2-4, Jesus wants us to come to him as little children, shouldn't we all be wearing the same expression of wonder and delight we see in the eyes of a child at Christmas? Of course it's not that simple. Adult life is full of stress, sadness, and serious problems, which are often magnified by the holidays. But I believe that it's not only possible to cultivate a sense of joyfulness, it's what God wants us, His children, to do.

When you think about the birth of Jesus? What do you feel? What do others see in you?

Dear God, create in me a joyful heart that others may recognize the wonder and delight of your salvation. In Jesus' name. Amen
