“In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.” - John 1:4-5
“The true light, which gives light to everyone, was coming into the world. He was in the world, and the world was made through him…" -John 1:9-10
Christmas as a child means so many things. Excitement for the surprises of the season, pure awe from the beautiful decorations that light up the night, comfort at knowing you'll get to stay home and be engulfed in your family's love during a school break, and so much more. Unfortunately, Christmas as an adult can often feel the opposite. Busy, chaotic, and stressful from a huge to-do list.
As we watch our small kids experience Christmas, I often find myself wishing that everyone could spend the season with a small child around this time. Watching them come to a halt and gasp over the smallest of decorations reminds me of the joy and awe of this season. You can see their bodies completely feel the joy and light! So, this Christmas, let's allow our inner kid out. Take a moment to stop and really look around at all of the beautiful efforts that have gone into decorating the city. Slow down to feel the love that's in the air of the season. Take a moment to appreciate the light that’s inside of all of us and the miracle of this season. Let's allow it to fill us up this season!
Dear Lord, Please help me to feel the pure awe, light, and love of this season. Please help me appreciate the small wonders around me and stop to appreciate your presence as it fills me with the beauty of this season. Amen
