Coming in September

I am a fan of the Marvel Movies.  My children and I keep track of the upcoming movies.  We plan and look forward to upcoming events.  As a child of God, I look forward to the greatest upcoming event.  Christ will come again to judge the living and the dead.  This will be amazing.  Every day, we prepare and plan for this event.  We look forward to the glory that will be revealed.  We anticipate the new heaven and new earth.  We are part of God's kingdom of grace through Christ. We look forward to the Kingdom of Glory where Christ has prepared a place for us.

While we wait we should live the life Christ has called us to live.  We should read, mark, and inwardly digest his Word.  We should meet to encourage one another.  We should teach our households the foundational teachings of our faith.  We should love our God and our neighbors. We are to shine the light of Christ in this sin darkened world. And we should always be prepared to give a reason for the hope we have in Christ.

To help you study the Word of God the church offers Sunday school from nine-fifteen to ten-fifteen. This is for children and adults.  This will begin again with a Rally Day on September 2.  Classes will begin on September 10. To provide this, we need Sunday school leaders and teachers.  We have been very blessed in the past with amazing teachers.  Still we are always looking for teachers and substitutes.  I am praying that our current teachers will continue in their role.  I also pray that we will be able to add to this awesome cadre of teachers.

Hebrews 10:25 and the second commandment are very clear statements that God wants his people to gather in worship. To facilitate meeting together we offer three worship services on Sunday.  The Sunday morning services are at eight and ten-thirty with communion.  Then we have a seven-pm worship service. We have communion at the evening service the first Sunday of the Month. I am sure you all know this. Still, we get questions about our service times and communion quite often.  I have members tell me they did not even know we have a Sunday evening service.  To facilitate this time together we need ushers, musicians, people to run the sound and power point, lectors, greeters, and counters.  The people who are filling these roles are amazing.  It would nice to add to this group.  I would ask you to contact the office if you would like to help in any of these areas.

Seventh and eighth graders should be gearing up for confirmation class.  This is the five hundredth anniversary of the Lutheran Reformation.  What a cool thing to be studying Luther's Small Catechism. Parental support and prayers from the congregation are coveted for this effort.

I am still looking for assistance and ideas for a five-hundredth anniversary celebration of the reformation.  There are people willing to help. I have contacted Trinity Block about their annual German fest.  It would be fun to get together and celebrate the reformation.  Lutherans are noted for their gatherings.

Finally, it it time for nominations for the church council.  The church council will be preparing a budget.  If you have input on the budget or nominations, talk to a member of the council.  There are always coming events in the life of a congregation.  Still everything pales when it is compared to the greatest event.  Jesus will come and Judge the living and the dead.  We are among the living.  We are clothed in the righteousness of Christ.

Another Successful Meals on Wheels Dinner and Pie Auction
Christ our Savior hosted the fifth annual Meals on Wheels Dinner and Pie auction on Saturday, July 8th, at the American Legion Hall. The dinner of smoked pulled pork and brisket, potato salad, baked beans, coleslaw, watermelon, and homemade barbecue sauces was just plain delicious! 56 pies were sold by our auctioneer, Ron Flaigle.  We raised $4,000 for the Louisburg Meals on Wheels program.  God has richly blessed the efforts of the following people:
  • Walter Chester for preparing the meat and barbecue sauces.
  • Christine Fauss, assisted by Linda Newman and her grand-niece Alexa, for cooking all of the side dishes.  Christine also baked 10 of her famous pies.
  • Don Newman and Richard Fauss for transporting food, supplies, flowers, etc. with assistance from Lois Rausch and Bob, Gloria and Garrett Rolofson, as well as setting up before and cleaning up afterwards.
  • Bob and Gloria Rolofson for manning the front table, selling tickets, distributing auction paddles, collecting pie money and organizing all of the paperwork.
  • Cindy Karrow for taking photos and sending them to the local newspaper.
  • Sandy Barsh for recording all of the pies sold and the winning bid.
  • Gwen LawRance for baking multiple delicious pies, as well as recruiting a friend who donated six pies.
  • Annastasia Muckenthaler, Molly Strubbe, Kate Sweyko, Lois Rausch and Harvey Lightner for baking pies for the auction.
  • Paul and Linda Richards for applying for and receiving a $250 Thrivent Card to help with expenses.
  • COS members who donated funds, though unable to attend.
  • Faithful members of the community for donating pies.
  • Louisburg Nursery and Ann's Floral for generously donating plants every year for decorations and prizes.
  • Everyone who supported this event, whose name has not been listed.

May God bless all of you and continue to bless our efforts on behalf of Meals on Wheels.  Thank you!

Beth Ramsey

P.S.  If you would like to donate money this coming year to defray the cost of next year's event, please write on the memo line of your check "Meals on Wheels account."  Thank you!

Financial News Update
As of June 30th, we are halfway through the year and the church treasury is on target with budgeted expenses.  We have been able to meet all of our financial obligations with your tithes and offerings!  This is especially good news because some of our expenses increase during the summer with hot weather and rain.  One of the improvements made in the past few months was replacing most of the lights in the sanctuary with LED bulbs - lowering the heat generated by all of the lights when the sanctuary is in use.  We expect to see lower energy bills as a result.  We have been blessed with great attendance, steady offerings and electronic giving.   Please keep praying for guidance and wisdom as we continue to make financial decisions. If you have any questions, please contact Cindy Karrow, Treasurer or Don Newman, Finance Committee Chair.

Christ Our Savior participates in an electronic giving program called Joyful Response.  We have partnered with Lutheran Church Extension Fund to make it easy for your contributions to go directly from your bank account to ours.   You can choose the amount and the timing - weekly, monthly, or semi-monthly.  Your offering records will be tracked so that you still get a year end statement of giving.  Please ask the church office for a form and start your electronic giving today.

We have begun receiving charitable contributions from the Amazon Smile program!  When you shop Amazon you can choose to login to www.smile.amazon.com and use your established Amazon login and password to make purchases.  Most items are eligible for the program.   Amazon deposits a quarterly donation into our checking account for qualifying purchases made through smile.amazon.com.  You only need to set up where you would like the charitable contribution to go:  Christ Our Savior Lutheran Church in Louisburg.  Thanks to those who have already signed up!

The Church Council

Thank You!
A HUGE THANK YOU to those who work quietly behind the scenes.  Light bulbs in the sanctuary were replaced with help from Jim Bell, Richard Fauss and Gwen LawRance.

The Community Center building is home to two new toilets and all new ceiling fixtures with LED bulbs.  Thanks to Richard Fauss for his plumbing and electrical work on the building.  Future plans include replacing wall sconces and lights and adding a couple more ceiling fixtures.  Richard also cleaned up the storage room and organized its contents and changed the way the refrigerator door opens.

In July there were many contributors to the sponsorship of the Annual Pie Auction benefiting Meals on Wheels.

We are extremely blessed and grateful for all the help and behind-the-scenes contributions.
