Cancelled Due to Lack of Interest
During the summer, as I look forward to the fall activities, I am tempted to hang a sign that says, "cancelled due to lack of interest". This I know, will never be true. I know that God will never lose interest in his church. I pray that God's children will never lose interest in his church. God told the children of Israel when they grumbled against Moses that they were not grumbling against the prophet but against God.
Confirmation will start in September and Sunday School needs to happen. The questions are: Will there be enough teachers for Sunday School? Will parents support Sunday School by bringing their children? Will the confirmands show up in the fall?
As summer attendance drops, the giving drops. Will we be able to pay the bills this fall? Do we need three services? It is hard to get readers, greeters, and acolytes. Is it unrealistic for the church to expect her members to be faithful in service and giving?
We have some amazing and faithful people who serve in this church. I wonder how long they will serve. This fall, two of our faithful Sunday school teachers will be unable to teach. I celebrate their service and the gifts they shared. They did an amazing job. The question arises, who will step up to take their place?
Every Sunday, when I see the power-point I am thankful for Debby Axmann who prepares these for worship services. Every seven days two different worship folders are prepared. Thank you, Gloria. The music here is wonderful. We need to thank Michelle and Teresa. Would you be willing to help with the music?
Sometimes I wonder if people do not participate because they are not asked. Sometimes I wonder if we do not say thank you enough. Do we take those who serve for granted? Do we fail to celebrate what they do? We have amazing readers, greeters and acolytes. We have amazing people that are willing to serve in these capacities. Would you be willing to help?
The other day I was asked. "Pastor do we still have the evening services?" Yes, we do, every Sunday at 7 PM. We send out a newsletter and emails and still I hear that people were not aware of activities in the church. Do you have any suggestions as to how we could better communicate?
Gerry and Michelle do a wonderful job with the youth. I know it is frustrating for them, when activities are cancelled due to lack of interest. I am thankful they are willing to serve. I celebrate their ministry.
In Genesis, chapter twenty-two, Abraham is tested. God tells Abraham to sacrifice his son Isaac. As Abraham and Isaac approach the altar for the sacrifice Isaac asks, "where is the lamb for the burnt offering?" Abraham replies: "God himself will provide the lamb..."
God will provide for his church. He has sent his Son to be the Lamb who was slain for the sins of the world. Is God calling you to serve in his church? The ministry of the church will never be cancelled for lack of interest because God never loses interest in us, his precious and loved children. The Lord will provide.

Another Successful Meals on Wheels Dinner and Pie Auction
Christ our Savior hosted the sixth annual Meals on Wheels Dinner and Pie auction on Saturday, July 7th, at the American Legion Hall. The dinner of smoked pulled pork and brisket, potato salad, baked beans, coleslaw, watermelon, and homemade barbecue sauces was just plain delicious! 67 pies were sold by our auctioneer, Bryan Knop. We raised $3,524 for the Louisburg Meals on Wheels program. God has richly blessed the efforts of the following people:
- Walter Chester for preparing the meat and barbecue sauces.
- Christine Fauss, assisted by Linda Newman and her grand-niece Alexa, for cooking all of the side dishes. Christine also baked 16 of her famous pies.
- Don Newman and Richard Fauss for transporting food, supplies, flowers, etc., as well as setting up before and cleaning up afterwards.
- Daniel and Kristen Bell for setting up all the tables and chairs.
- Bob and Gloria Rolofson for manning the front table, selling tickets, distributing auction paddles, collecting pie money, organizing all of the paperwork, and printing flyers and tickets.
- Cindy Karrow for taking photos and sending them to the local newspaper.
- Gwen LawRance, Carolyn Megee, Molly Strubbe, Lois Rausch, Harvey Lightner, Rhonda Kerr, Allison Walania (our youngest baker made 7 pies!), and former member Diana Lynn for baking pies for the auction.
- Paul and Linda Richards for applying for and receiving a $250 Thrivent Card to help with expenses.
- COS members who donated funds.
- Faithful members of the community for donating pies and money.
- Louisburg Nursery and Ann's Floral for generously donating plants every year for decorations and prizes.
- Everyone who supported this event, whose name has not been listed.
May God bless all of you and continue to bless our efforts on behalf of Meals on Wheels. Thank you!
Beth Ramsey
P.S. If you would like to donate money this coming year to defray the cost of next year's event, please write on the memo line of your check "Meals on Wheels account." Thank you!
