September Partner Spotlight:
Mission Dolores Academy
Mission Dolores Academy

"Thanks to a generous grant from Children of Shelters, Mission Dolores Academy launched a comprehensive Speech and Language Program in the 2019/2020 school year. Thirty-one children were identified as being language impaired, and they began intensive one-on-one speech and language therapy. We are excited to report that all students made significant strides in their language development and are well on their way to language proficiency.

Based on this program’s success, MDA will be expanding SLP services in 2020-2021. Initially, all incoming Kindergartners will be tested for proficiency, and our SLP services will begin remotely. We are excited about the future of this program, and we are confident that our students are gaining the skills to access grade-level curriculum."

Mission Dolores Academy Committee

Meet our COS Board of Directors who work directly with Mission Dolores. These members are our liaisons that assess our partners' needs regularly and help creatively find new ways to support Mission Dolores. In 2018, our Mission Dolores Academy Committee advocated for an increase in funding to Mission Dolores in order to support their goals in increasing access to speech & language therapy. Going into our second year partnering with Mission Dolores on this effort, we couldn't be more excited to hear the successes that Mission Dolores Academy students are having through this program.
