Women's History Month

For this year's Women's History Month, we at COS are highlighting books by Episcopalian women to inspire each of us to support and celebrate the women in our ministries, our church, and our lives.

Get inspired by getting to know the first five Black women to be elected diocesan bishops within the Episcopal Church:

This Band of Sisterhood:

Black Women Bishops on Race, Faith, and the Church

edited by Westina Matthews, forward by Catherine Meeks, & Afterword by Bishop Paula Clark

The five Black women bishops featured in this book can provide a compass for how to journey along the new paths of togetherness we need to forge in the knowledge that Black Lives Matter and #metoo. Jennifer Baskerville-Burrows, Carlye J. Hughes, Kimberly Lucas, Shannon MacVean-Brown, and Phoebe A. Roaf offer honest, vulnerable wisdom from their own lives that speaks to this time in American life.

Reminder: Daylight Savings Time

Daylight Savings Time begins this weekend, Sunday March 12th. Remember to set your clocks forward one hour!

Lenten Programming at COS

Thursday Lenten Series

Each Thursday in Lent, beginning on March 2, we will gather for worship, simple food, and rich conversation. This year's Lenten Series will be exploring several ministry partners of Episcopal Charities such as Revive, Bishop Anderson House, Saint Leonard's Ministries, and Care for Friends.

The program begins at 6:30 with a simple mass in the church; followed by a simple supper in the parish hall, and then the program at 7:30 followed by Compline at 8:45.

Contact the office to volunteer with a supper.

Episcopal Rosary

Each Friday in Lent at 6:30pm, we will gather ON ZOOM to pray an Episcopal-style rosary. This is a unique rosary draws on scriptural reflections in the style of the traditional rosary. Whether you have prayed the rosary before or you never have, everyone will enjoy this reflective experience.

Requiescat in Pace: The Most Rev. Frank T. Griswold, III

A Message from Bishop Paula Clark:

Dear People of God in the Diocese of Chicago,

I am sad to share the news that the Most Rev. Frank Tracy Griswold III, Tenth Bishop of Chicago and 25th Presiding Bishop of The Episcopal Church, died earlier today in Philadelphia. He was 85...Click here to continue reading the Bishop's letter.

A Message from Rev. Brian:

Perhaps many of you will have heard on other media posts about the death of Bishop Frank Griswold this past Sunday. Prior to taking on the role of Presiding Bishop, Frank was Bishop of Chicago. He was in every way a traditional ‘catholic’ Episcopalian yet he set a course for this diocese that was quite revolutionary at the time...Click here to continue reading Rev. Brian's reflection.
