What If?

What if everyone who considers Christ Our Savior their church showed up at second service one Sunday this summer? Would there be enough places for everyone to sit? Would there be enough bulletins? Would we have enough wafers and cups set up for communion?

What if all the children of all the families in the church came to Sunday school? Would we have enough teachers? Would we have enough lesson plans? Would we have enough room?

What if every member gave their first fruits to God? What would we do with all this money? Would we have enough counters? Would we fight over what ministries we could support? Would we have to hire another staff person?

What if every member attended Bible study? Would they be motivated to share their faith in the community? Would this bring in more people to worship? Would families be stronger, and children be empowered by God's truth?

What if we had too many Sunday school teachers? What if we had too many people who wanted to help with music and worship? What if we have too many people who wanted to serve the church in leadership? What if we had groups that wanted to go on mission trips or serve in community?

These are things I ponder. Then I remember what my dad used to say: "If wishes and buts were candy and nuts we would all have a Merry Christmas." We tend to, "what if", ourselves a lot. When we, "what if", we are expressing a dissatisfaction with the way things are. This is okay if you are identifying problems and working out solutions. This is damaging if you only identify problems. If all you do is identify problems, then all you are doing is complaining. Nobody likes a complainer.

God encourages us to look at the possibilities. Paul, in Philippians says: "I know how to be brought low, and I know how to abound. In any and every circumstance, I have learned the secret of facing plenty and hunger, abundance and need. I can do all things through him who strengthens me." (Philippians 4:12-13) Paul faces difficulties and he trusts God to strengthen him. In Luke Chapter 1 the angel tells a frightened teen aged girl, "For nothing will be impossible with God." (Luke 1:37)

God calls us to participate in worship. God calls us to give our first fruits. God calls us serve one another. God promises to provide for all our needs. God assures us that he has redeemed us. We are declared righteous through the suffering and death of Christ on the cross. God tells us that we are his disciples. God commissions us to proclaim his truth and bring hope and peace to all nations. God is faithful. What if we trust in his promise and respond to his call?

What if you see something that needs to be done in our church or our community, and did something positive and proactive, instead of waiting for someone else to step up and help? What if you placed your relationship to God as a priority? I can tell you "what if".  "But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you." (Matthew 6:33) Allow God to use you to accomplish his purpose. May God fill your life with opportunities to share his love and live your faith.

Beware of the Flocking!

Flamingo Don't be flocked! Flamingo Alert

Be on the lookout for the flamingos!  We've heard that the flock was making its way back to Louisburg.  So be prepared . I f you don't like tacky, pink flamingos invading your yard or you just don't want to be
Tickled Pink
you can protect yourself by purchasing Anti-Flocking Insurance from one of our trusty youth group insurance agents.  If your yard is invaded, please call our trained de-flockers to handle the situation.  Do not attempt to handle these birds by yourself.  Our trained agents will be available soon in the narthex on Sunday, June 3rd and June 10th to answer any questions you may have regarding these pesky birds - how to flock your friends with them, how to prevent being flocked, etc.  Flockings will be scheduled to run from June 4 - June 29 when members of the COS Flamingo Flocking Crew will deliver approximately 10 birds to an unsuspecting lawn where they have been directed to roost for 48 hours.

Be an early bird...reserve your Flocking now!
