Summertime

This summer we will have Vacation Bible School in June. Vacation Bible School will be in the evening. I know we have some parents who would prefer daytime VBS. If there is enough interest, and I can find leaders, we could run a second VBS during the day. I hear interest in having more activities at the church. The problem is leadership and participation.

Wednesday evening Bible Study is a great way to learn more about scripture. We are currently studying what the Bible says about Angels and Demons. Everyone is welcome to attend these evening Bible Studies. They start at seven pm.

I struggle with summer Sunday School. There is a challenge in finding teachers. It is also important that we have participation in the Sunday Morning Bible Study. It is frustration for a teacher to prepare a lesson and have no students to teach. There will not be regular Sunday school this summer.

It is also time to look forward to the fall activities. Christ Our Savior Lutheran Church will be fifteen years old this year. I think it would be fun to have a fall celebration to commemorate this milestone. We had a great Reformation celebration. A fifteen-year celebration would be fun.

There are always opportunities to serve the Lord. My Dad used to say: "There is more than one way to skin a cat." I have never skinned a cat, nor do I think that would be a good idea. What my Dad was trying to say was that there is always more than one way to solve a problem.

Churches sometimes get in ruts. Doing the same thing the same way, and expecting different results, is never a good plan. Is there a better way to glorify God and serve our community?

Howard Meyer and Glen Pooler have offered to help anyone who needs help moving. They are retired and physically able to help. These are the kind of opportunities that are available. When we pool our gifts and resources and work together, we are becoming the church.

Summer months are difficult financially for the church. Attendance and giving goes down in the summer. God calls us to worship him with our praise, service, and first fruit giving. Consider how you can continue to support the church during the summer months.

It is exciting that our youth group will be attending the national youth gathering in Minneapolis this summer. Gerry and Michelle will be ending their service as youth leaders. I am praying that God will lift someone up to fill this ministry opportunity,

I pray you all have a safe and fun summer.  Remember wherever you go you are God's precious and beloved child.  God will place opportunities before you to share the hope you have in Christ.  Exploit these opportunities.  Serve the Lord with gladness.  Pray, praise and give thanks.

Vacation Bible School June 10-13!

Our Miraculous Mission VBS will be held on June 10th - 13th from 6-8 pm. Our lessons will focus on how God made the Universe, God Promises a Savior, Jesus the Savior is Born and Jesus the Savior is Risen.  Any child from Preschool - 6th grade is welcome to attend.   Dinner will be provided each evening.

We are looking for volunteers to help provide the meals on Tuesday -Thursday.  Looking for items like mac and cheese, hotdogs, hamburgers, sandwiches, tacos...whatever you can provide.  If you can help with a meal, please contact Carrie Gregar at 913-837-2791.  Thank you to the LWML for providing Monday's meal.

Enrollment forms are located online and at the  back of the church.  We need a form for each child attending.  There is no fee for attending,  so bring your child to VBS so they can join in the fun and learn more about our Savior!

Donations and a Prayer Envelope Fundraiser for Minneapolis!
Help our young people reach their destination - the National Youth Gathering in Minneapolis, Minnesota, July 11-15.

By selecting a numbered envelope from the "wall" in the Narthex in the next two weeks, your chosen donation will help us reach our fundraising goal. Each envelope is numbered sequentially from 1 to 50. Each envelope contains the corresponding dollar amount; as well as a prayer request card from our youth.

We invite and encourage you to offer a donation to our young members, and help us with their prayer requests in the process.  Just return your envelope in the marked bucket on the counter near the poster and please hold onto the prayer request and pray it.

It's with your support, since 2013, these young people and their adult chaperones have been afforded the opportunity to encounter Christ and his church on the national level.

From all our travelers to you our Christ Our Savior community we say THANK YOU in advance!!
