We would love for you to join us for an inspiring educational and networking event focused on the power of aligned resources, information, and response right here in our region. Join COSA for this special meeting!

This presentation will focus on the work of a local leading immigrant justice organization, Pioneer Valley Workers Center, and LUCE, the statewide Massachusetts coalition of immigrant-led grassroots organizations. PVWC and LUCE have organized rapid response, mutual aid, and leadership development opportunities for impacted community members in the face of severe threats to immigrants. Presenters will speak to the value of coalition building to address complex crises, share resources, and increase solidarity and awareness between organizations.

MassBudget on the Senate W&M FY27 Budget

The Senate Ways and Means (SWM) Committee’s FY2027 budget proposal, released on May 5, allocates approximately $63.3 billion in spending for the Commonwealth. This proposal includes $2.7 billion from the Fair Share surtax, the voter-approved ballot initiative that enacted a surtax on the highest incomes in Massachusetts. This is the next step in the budget cycle, after the House finalized its proposal on April 29. The SWM proposed budget follows a similar approach to the governor’s proposal, bracing for difficult times ahead while making ample use of the Fair Share surtax. The Massachusetts Budget and Policy Center (MassBudget) will release a conference committee preview analysis after the proposed FY 2027 budget is approved by the full Senate, which is slated to happen in late-May.

MA Commission on LGBTQ Aging

Join the Massachusetts Commission on LGBTQ Aging for a Listening Session at the Northampton Senior Center on Tuesday, May 26th. The Massachusetts Commission on LGBTQ Aging invites a diverse group of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning, and other identified (LGBTQ+) older adults, family, friends, and allies to join in dialogue about what is and isn’t working well for LGBTQ+ older adults and caregivers across the Commonwealth. The Commission focuses on a number of key areas, including health, housing, and social connections for LGBTQ+ older adults and their caregivers, and making recommendations to improve access to benefits and services where appropriate and necessary.

New Emergency Dept is completed

Cooley Dickinson Hospital has officially completed a major expansion and renovation of its Emergency Department — now 40% larger and designed to better meet the needs of patients and families across western Massachusetts.

The new space includes additional patient rooms, dedicated mental health care beds, an in department CT scanner, and a redesigned layout that supports faster, more efficient care.
