We believe that Another Gulf and Another World is possible!
As we continue to mourn the injustices and loss of innocent residents, leaders, artists and the voices of all those being silenced through murder and oppression we remember the wise words of Toni Morrison. May she rest in power.
“The presence of evil was something to be first recognized, then dealt with, survived, outwitted, triumphed over.”
“The function of freedom is to free someone else.”

FLOATING CITIES
, opening August 29th, 2019
6-9pm @ Zeitgeist Multi-Disciplinary Arts Center

Floating Cities features a catalog of various floating typologies from around the world, including floating houses, art projects, landscapes, infrastructure (bridges, tunnels, roads), and floating cities. In 2000, Japan inaugurated the “Blue Revolution” with a floating airport in Tokyo Bay. In 2010, Singapore launched the world’s first floating football field. The Dutch are pioneering floating houses and cities, while the Norwegians are working on monumental floating infrastructure including bridges and tunnels. The first floating city is scheduled to be built off the coast of French Polynesia in 2022. Ranging from vernacular floating environments to experimental architecture and urban proposals based on cutting-edge buoyant technology, tidal energy, and sustainable models of development, this exhibition explores a global movement of urbanization on water. The scope of projects illustrates this emerging field of design while examining the relevance of floating cities in contemporary design debates concerning climate change and sea level rise.

On this July 4, 2019, we did something different: skipped the parades that promote nationalism, and gathered to celebrate our Rio Grande Valley roots. The stronger our roots, the deeper the cracks in the foundation of the walls of oppression. As a community, we expressed our colorful spirit and deepened connections. This was an event for everyone.
The day one workshop included messaging, designing, and prepping silkscreens. The day two workshop included screen printing, creating wheatpaste, and wheat pasting tactics.

As part of Plastic Free July the movie “A Plastic Ocean” was screened in Pensacola and Fort Walton Beach, Florida. The movie discussed the environmental and public health impacts associated with plastics in our daily lives and how they are negatively impacting marine and other species due to improper waste disposal and not having a proper way to dispose of plastic since most of it takes years or decades to decompose. We discussed ways in which people could live a plastic less life. Learn more about this incredible documentary

During the month of June, in Northwest Florida, we held a workshop on “The importance of trees” to the environment and our overall public health. Trees plan a significant role in helping to combat carbon emissions through carbon sequestration. We are working nationally and internationally to ensure that our trees and forests are preserved and protected from deforestation, clear-cutting and other adverse impacts.
