TRANSPORTATION CHAIR YDANIS RODRIGUEZ STATEMENT ON NEW ENTRANTS TO FOR-HIRE-VEHICLE INDUSTRY

New York, NY-As new companies seek to expand into NYC's taxi, livery and black car industry, NYC Council Transportation Chair Ydanis Rodriguez today issued a word of caution to those who would seek to skirt TLC regulations. He had this to say:

"With the influx of new and innovative technology already changing the for-hire-vehicle landscape in New York City, there is a need to ensure that new entrants into this industry be law abiding partners rather than renegade actors. The Taxi and Limousine Commission has strict guidelines in place to ensure the safety and security of both drivers and the riding public, and these cannot be taken lightly. Competition is always encouraged, but subverting crucial regulations is illegal and will not be tolerated. I will continue to work with the TLC to ensure everyone driving a for hire vehicle is licensed by the TLC and that their cars have passed the required inspections necessary to operate on our streets. I look forward to holding a hearing at the Transportation Committee in the near future to address concerns that my colleagues and I have, so we can avoid potentially dangerous situations from occurring."
