October 2018  Edition

Dear Beloved,

It's so nice to be in touch with you again. The months seem to be racing by. October has been a great month, with children going back to universities.  Much as we have had politics taking centre stage as elections draw near, we also see so many people arising to pray.

We are privileged to have this edition's " In His Presence", written by Trish Riley from South Africa. It's great so enjoy it.

We attended the Voice of Apostles in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Some photos are available for you to see. It's a great conference where you leave spiritually refreshed and with great impartation.

We have the Bethel Sozo conference adverts in this newsletter . If you live in Abuja, please do attend. You will be mightily blessed. You could also send it to your contacts in Abuja.

We have our other great regular features so enjoy, and forward to your friends and family.

COURAGE . . .

Courage is the ability to do something that frightens one - it is the act of bravery in the face of challenge. Discouragement on the other hand is a loss of confidence or enthusiasm.  So often we set out to achieve something, and when the going gets tough we start to down tools and open the door to discouragement, instead of having the courage to rise above it.

We are not alone in this.  When Joshua was about to enter the promised land, the Lord told him 'Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go." (Joshua 1:9)  He had been on the journey out of Egypt - he had seen God at work miracles in hugely challenging situations. He had been chosen to lead the people into the promised land, where he knew there was a river in flood to cross, giants to fight, powerful people and fortified cities to conquer, and yet he also knew God's promises for the people of Israel. He knew the land was flowing with milk and honey.  When the people allowed fear to rule, it was Joshua and Caleb who tore their clothes and exhorted the people: "The land we passed through and explored is exceedingly good.  If the Lord is pleased with us, he will lead us into that land, a land flowing with milk and honey, and will give it to us.  Only do not rebel against the Lord. And do not be afraid of the people of the land, because we will devour them. Their protection is gone, but the Lord is with us. Do not be afraid of them."  (Numbers 14:6 - 9)

Joshua and Caleb were able to hold onto the vision and promises, where others lost hope. They were able to stand strong because they believed the promises of God and refused to be shaken.

Africa is a mighty continent, and it is her time to rise. It is our promised land. In this season it is so important that we know God's promises for the many nations that make up our continent, and hold onto them.    We know that Africa is a land of milk and honey, and we need to see her arise to the greatness of her destiny. Each of us has a part to play - each one of us can choose to be courageous, or to allow discouragement to stop us from fulfilling the plans God has to bring hope to our land.

There are many working for the good of Africa - there are those working to bring hope to the hopeless - the widows and orphans. There are those working to create sustainable small-scale businesses that help people move into the marketplace. Africa is full of resources, and one of our greatest resources is our ability to create out of a place of need. Many life-changing inventions and innovations have come out of Africa - wind and solar power systems to power households that do not have access to electricity, medical innovations that are transforming lives and much more.

Prayer is key to transformation. Here in South Africa, Angus Buchan, a well-known evangelist, is holding his third 'It's Time' prayer gathering outside Pretoria on the 27th October, where everyone is invited to come and pray, as he leads the people in repentance and intercession for our beloved country.  He is believing for five million people to come together from all walks of life and denominations. It is a vision that could be daunting if God was not behind it. He faces criticism and huge logistical challenges, but God has grown a strong team around him to help with every aspect of this event.

I love Nigeria and have visited Lagos many times over the last few years. Last year was my first visit to Abuja, and I have been so encouraged by the grace and hospitality of the people I have met. In Nigeria exciting things are happening.   Lapis Lazuli ministries are working tirelessly to bring unity in the churches and release both physical and inner healing from the heart of Jesus to those who need His touch. Mr Femi and Dr Mina Bajomo heard the call of God and acted on it. God has put a strong team around them to help them action His vision in this time and season, and they have witnessed the mighty healing power of Jesus first-hand as is evidenced by the testimonies on their website. They have stood in faith to fill conference halls where men and women are equipped and encouraged. They have welcomed powerful political and church leaders in authority in the country alongside destitute widows from the north who have suffered much trauma at these events. Peter understood God's heart when he said: 'I realise how true it is that God does not show favouritism but accepts from every nation the one who fears Him and does what is right.' (Acts 10:34-35).

None of these things happen without the foundation of God's promise, and trustworthy men and women who are courageous enough to believe and step out in faith. They have fought giants and been given access to people and places that appeared to be impregnable, and as they have stood firm, they have seen the goodness of God unveiling in a miraculous way.

What is God calling you to do?  What do you need courage for today? As we take one small step into the plans and purposes God has for our lives, He is faithful to undertake. There are many reading this who have testimonies to His goodness - sharing those testimonies gives encouragement to others to have courage as they do those things that seem impossible, so do email [email protected] with these stories of hope, as together we work to bring God's kingdom to earth in unity of heart.

Ephesians 2:10 says: 'For we are God's handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works which God prepared in advance for us to do.'   Let us believe that promise and rise us to do those good works to honour our Lord.
