CAAA’s In-Person Summer Convention Cancelled Amid COVID-19 Pandemic, Moving Forward with Virtual Conference
As a result of the rapid spread of COVID-19, California residents continue to live under a mandatory “shelter in place” order enacted by Governor Newsom on March 19, 2020, forbidding all but essential activity.

Good sense, good citizenship and various stay-at-home orders enacted around the state have led us to the decision to cancel our in-person Summer Convention scheduled for June 25-28, 2020, in San Diego.

In the city of San Diego itself, Mayor Kevin Faulconer issued an order on April 30, 2020, extending previous orders which prohibit gatherings of more than 50 people and strongly discourages any other non-essential gathering. The new order is set to expire on May 31, 2020, but is likely to be extended. San Diego County’s stay-at-home order has been extended indefinitely as they rely on guidance from state officials who continue to urge Californians to stay at home and refrain from gathering.

Protecting the health of our members, staff, attendees and the community at large is of the utmost importance. Furthermore, these stay at home orders render travel by our members and attendees, the convention itself, and delivery of materials necessary for the convention materially impracticable or impossible. We thank you for your understanding of our decision to cancel under these circumstances.

While we’re disappointed we won’t be able to meet in person and take part in the convention experience we’ve all become accustomed to, we are happy to announce that we will be hosting a virtual convention offering the same great educational content you’ve come to expect. CAAA’s 2020 Virtual Summer Convention is scheduled to take place via an online platform where you’ll have access to the expert panels and exhibitors over the usual 4 day-period.

Registration will be opening very soon, so be on the lookout as we make the announcement in the coming days with more details.

Thank you for your patience as we continue to navigate this extraordinary circumstance together, and thank you for continuing to be a valuable member of the CAAA community. We hope you’ll join us for the CAAA 2020 Virtual Summer Convention.
