An Update from us on COVID-19 and Summer Camp
Dear Duquesne Clubhouse Family,

We hope this memo finds you healthy and well. We want to let you know Boys & Girls Clubs of Western Pennsylvania are here for you during this difficult time. COVID-19 has brought all of us many challenges that we have never faced before. Please contact our offices 412-782-5710 or visit our website www.bgcwpa.org for resources such as food pantry box delivery, food distribution sites, cleaning & hygiene kits, and specialty day camp needs if you are emergency or healthcare personnel. Last week we were happy to see members in Orchard Park, at our food truck event and other locations where we provided hot meals. So far, we have completed over 250 deliveries of these items to Duquesne to support our members and neighbors. We are also sending planting kits with tomato plants, seed packets and fresh fruits and vegetables to families who are interested. Let us know if your child or children would like to participate and receive one! We will incorporate STEM education as well as a cooking lesson and children can win prizes.

As you know from a previous communication, we are shifting our program operations to the school building which is located a few blocks away from our existing space. This shift will allow us to serve more kids, be in a safer space and have enhanced literacy and STEM programs; charter and private school students are welcome to continue attending the program in our relocated spaces at the school under a new licensed model. We are also excited to offer before care programming, for the first time and running our Healthy Lifestyles mentoring and risk aversion programming. Registration will begin midsummer.

We are doing everything in our power to provide our children with the best opportunities being mindful of the times we are living in. As shared in our family letter sent home to email addresses on file and web post last week , this summer we will have limited programming due to budget restrictions brought on by COVID-19 and the cost of running camps during COVID-19. Virtual programming will continue throughout the summer with our partner, Outschool. You can r ead more on our website.  Additionally, we are partnering with Duquesne City School District to run virtual summer camp programs for children in grades K-2 daily focused on literacy and our Outschool classes. This program, free of charge to any Duquesne City School District Student in K-2 , is now open for registration and runs from 6/15/20-7/14/20. Please e-mail [email protected] with questions.

We are working on providing in-person camps at four of our centrally located facilities (pending enrollment targets are met) and existing Duquesne-West Mifflin Clubhouse families are eligible to attend those if interested: limited scholarships are available. Additionally, we are actively pursuing a partnership with another local day camp provider close to Duquesne to attend camp at their location, a full scholarship and transportation for up to 45 Duquesne Clubhouse members; when we have those plans confirmed, we will let you know. Please call the number listed above to let us know if your child would like to be considered for our partner camp once it's confirmed!

As a reminder, we offer teen Career Works programming which is located in the old Daily News Building on Walnut Street in McKeesport. This program is open to all teens from Duquesne and West Mifflin; teens receive a stipend and dual enrollment credits. Please consider recommending this to your teen or having them sign up for our Learn & Earn Program this summer ! Career Works’ students can explore the ways their passions can fit into their career path while engaging with their peers from across the Mon Valley and having active choices about their future with individualized success plans to fit each students’ needs. We have individuals give talks about their career path and answer questions from the teens in a relaxed atmosphere.

We value your family and are excited about working with your children by activating and advancing the potential in every child by doing whatever it takes to ensure they have great futures. Thank you for entrusting us with your children and teens - we take that very seriously and are excited for the day we will all be together in person.
We activate and advance the
potential in every child by doing
whatever it takes to ensure they
have great futures.
Warmest regards,
