NJAASC SUGGESTED TIME SENSITIVE TEMPLATE FOR USE BY ASC’S- 6/23/20
In ED 20-016, the Department allowed for ‘time sensitive’ cases.
All cases require testing.
These are cases that can be performed after testing, but prior to results received (6 days) IF the procedure is deemed absolutely necessary due to risk/harm to the patient.

It is suggested that this form be used as documentation, to substantiate the need for such, per the Department requirement for documentation in ED 20-016.

These type cases should only be performed as exceptions, not as the rule! They should not be performed because a doctor simply does not want to wait for test results for cases that would not endanger the health of the patient if delayed for test results.

The Department is going to collect this case information via the PPE/case portal, so they will be looking at this particular exception and enforcing it.

YOU CANNOT ACCESS THE PORTAL, DON’T TRY! - 6/23/20
Please, understand that the portal is not operational yet, as I have been explaining for two weeks!

See below the message sent to all licensed ASCs from the Department, yesterday.

The Department needs to get all licensed ASCs to register with them.
Upon full completion, password and instruction will be sent to everyone.

One thing I would start thinking about, is tracking your cancelled cases.
That is going to be part of the portal weekly reporting.
If you have been filling out the NJAASC data collection tool- great, as DOH is modeling the portal portion for cases after ours.
Same type of categories.

You are not missing anything, and you don’t need to do anything, right now!

Good Afternoon,
As you know the Department of Health has been working with the licensed/registered ambulatory Surgical Centers to collect the NAME and CONTACT information including Email for a maximum of two people that will be entering information into the portal. If you have not submitted for your organization, please ensure that you do.
The Department also wanted to provide an update regarding the portal. It is under development and will be finalized this week and the update and credentials will be shared shortly.
Thank you.

ADDENDA REGARDING ED 20-016 - 6/22/20
We had a good conference call with the Department yesterday to discuss and clarify the new ED.

Six Day Testing clarification:
As discussed on our call today….

When the specimen is collected is time 0, and counts starts from there. For example - Specimen collected 9 AM on Monday, then 9 AM on Tues would be one day, and patient would need to have procedure by 9 AM on Sunday.

Thanks!

Some other thoughts and comments from NJAASC:

1) Pertaining to testing, in the ED, DOH is strongly recommending that ASCs contract with a lab.

2) Page 8-e:
This talks about ‘time sensitive’ cases.
You still have to test EVERYONE.
This just allows for a case to be performed prior to receiving test results-  if the patient health is endangered .
This is not meant to be a loophole for just doing cases without waiting for results, but for special cases, exceptions if you will.
There are rules you must abide by if you do this- documentation and special air handling/exchange guidelines, remember that.
