Governor Reynolds recently signed a proclamation temporarily suspending the personal appearance requirement for notarization to promote further social distancing efforts.
SECTION SIXTEEN.
Pursuant to Iowa Code § 29C.6(6), I temporarily suspend the personal appearance requirement in Iowa Code § 9B.6, but only to the extent that the notarial act complies with the requirements of section 6 of 2019 Iowa Acts chapter 44 (Senate File 475) and any additional guidance provided by the Iowa Secretary of State regarding approved communication technology.
Pursuant to the Iowa Secretary of State’s In-Person Notarization Requirement Waiver Guidance, which can be found here , remote notarial acts must conform to all of the provisions in Iowa Administrative Code 721-43, Iowa Code chapter 9B, and every provision of Section 6 of Senate File 475, passed in 2019.

Notaries intending to undertake remote notarization must complete the Secretary of State’s notice form.

The wellbeing of our participants, industry partners and staff remains our priority. Please continue to implement the best practices recommended by local, state and federal authorities.
