Dear KCU Faculty and Staff:

As the first cases of COVID-19 were identified in both Kansas and Missouri over the weekend, local news coverage will continue to focus on the coronavirus along with additional precautionary measures expected by some employers locally.

Although currently there are no identified cases of COVID-19 on either of the KCU campuses and the risk of infection remains low in the Joplin and Kansas City regions, we continue to monitor information available from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), which is updated on our website on a regular basis.

At this time, the CDC guidelines are encouraging employers to allow people to work from home as a way to help reduce contagion, particularly those who may be at higher risk for severe illness, such as older adults and those with chronic medical conditions, as well as individuals who are caregivers for those at higher risk. I encourage you to work with your manager or department chair to determine if a remote-work scenario is possible for you.

Our number-one goal is to keep our students, faculty and staff safe and healthy. We will continue to update you on the evolving situation around COVID-19, its impact on our campus community and actions we are taking in response. If at any time you have concerns, please let your manager or department chair know.

Yours truly,

Marc B. Hahn, DO
President and Chief Executive Officer
