COVID-19 Market Update
We're Watching Closely

First of all, we want to reassure you that we are monitoring the situation extensively using a wide variety of resources, including expert analysis that is not always available to the general public or the financial media. Internally, discussions are ongoing regarding how best to advise our clients during this challenge.

Some Perspective on COVID-19

Here's what we know so far: From a public health perspective, this virus is going to challenge our society, and the rest of the world. Lessons learned in China, Italy, and elsewhere are being deployed to greater or lesser degree across the country. We should be hopeful that the impact of the virus will be manageable. It is difficult to clearly see how this will unfold, and as we know, the market hates it when the future is obscured. As a result, the markets have fallen and may remain volatile until we have better understanding of how this will affect the economy. Currently, the market is pricing in the possibility of a recession. After this challenge has passed, we will as a country have a conversation about our ability to weather public health crises, but the economy will recover and the markets, with more clarity, will rebound and be less chaotic.  Patience is our best virtue in times like this.

What You Should Do Now

It is very natural to want to do something when this kind of news grips the markets. However, making decisions under emotional duress can be disastrous for meeting your long-term goals. Warren Buffett rarely jumps in and out of investments based on the news. We shouldn't either. As Buffett says, "Look at market fluctuations as your friend rather than your enemy; profit from folly rather than participate in it."

Reminder: We chose your investments and constructed your portfolio to weather these kinds of market storms. One of our core principles is to help our clients make wise decisions and avoid mistakes in financial matters. We strive to be objective and help you make the best choices. This especially applies today. If you would like to re-read about our process, our principals, and our approach to managing risk, I invite you to visit our website or reach out to us.
