Safety Alert: Cal/OSHA Releases Guide To Protect Workers From Coronavirus
Cal/OSHA has posted an interim guidance to reinforce employers' obligation to protect workers exposed to airborne infectious diseases such as the Coronavirus (COVID-19).
The guidance does not include the statewide recommendations of social distancing and wearing face coverings; however, whenever possible, these practices should be considered for adoption in the workplace to provide additional benefit to reduce the possible spread of the coronavirus.
For the interim, Cal/OSHA recommends employers do the following:
- Follow the recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Interim Guidance for Businesses and Employers to Plan and Respond to Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) (next page).
- Review the CDC recommendations with all company employees-and have employees sign the attached sheet that they have been instructed on the CDC recommendations.
- Add the CDC recommendations as an Addendum to your company's Injury and Illness Prevention Program.
Poster Reminder:
All employers must make employee aware of their rights under the Families First Coronavirus Response Act. Poster must be conspicuously posted, may be distributed online, posted on employer website, directly mailed or e-mailed to employees. The poster in multiple languages can be downloaded from the following website: https://www.dol.gov/agencies/whd/ffcra.
