GAVILAN COLLEGE STATUS:
All locations of Gavilan College are closed through the end of May. All instruction and services will be provided in an online format through the end of Spring semester.
NEW- Santa Clara County extended the Shelter-In-Place order through May 31; however, construction businesses, outdoor businesses (such as landscaping), and outdoor recreating venues that do not require close contact or shared touched surfaces will be permitted to open as of May 4. NEW - According to California Governor Gavin Newsom, California is “weeks, not months” away from modifying its stay-at-home orders. There are four stages of business to adapt and modify to reopen across the state. We are currently in stage one:
Safety and Preparedness – making essential workforce environments as safe as possible;
Higher Risk Workplaces – gyms/spas/salons, other activities with close contact;
Ending Stay-At-Home Order – conventions, entertainment venues, large public gatherings.
NEW - Today the state announced two new initiatives to combat food insecurity. First, CalFresh recipients will receive the maximum benefits for the month of May and also can now use their EBT card to make purchases online at Amazon and Walmart. NEW - Community Colleges Chancellor Eloy Ortiz Oakley is convening a high level taskforce to develop guidance and recommendations for the Chancellor’s Office to use in supporting colleges as they plan for the reopening of campuses. Los Rios Community College District Chancellor Brian King will chair the taskforce and Shasta College Superintendent/President Joe Wyse will help establish its members. Chancellor Oakley has asked for guidance for continuing instruction in an environment where the system can continue to exercise social distancing; a framework on when to begin to open college campuses; guidance for supporting the classified staff and faculty as we reopen college campuses; recommendations to the Chancellor’s Office on any changes to regulations impacting space utilization that may be required due to the anticipated social distancing protocols; and guidance and recommendations on how to position our advocacy to support the rapid workforce training necessary to get Californians reemployed. Chancellor Oakley has asked for preliminary guidance and recommendations by May 22.
