NEWS
NEW - The governor today loosened the coronavirus criteria for counties wanting to reopen. Counties will have to demonstrate that hospitalization rates are stable and their rate of positive cases are low. Counties would also need to show they had no more than 25 COVID-19 cases per 100,000 residents in the past 14 days, or a positive test rate of less than 8%. Newsom says this move will allow 53 of the state’s 58 counties to more quickly reopen.

NEW - Newsom also said today that professional sports could begin in early June , without fans present.

NEW - Disaster Relief for Immigrants : Disaster Relief for Immigrants: From May 18 to June 30, Catholic Charities will provide COVID-19 disaster relief assistance to undocumented immigrants. An undocumented adult who qualifies will receive $500 of direct cash assistance (maximum of $1000 per household). A household is defined as individuals who live, purchase, and prepare meals together. To apply, call 866-490-3899  Monday through Saturday 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Applicants must provide a photo ID with a Santa Clara County address.

NEW - Santa Clara County loosens restrictions on retail and outdoor activities: Starting Friday, May 22, 2020, certain retailers will be allowed to open for curbside/outdoor pickup. Additionally, manufacturers and warehouses in the supply chain for those retail stores will be allowed to reopen for business. These businesses must follow all sanitation, safety, health, and physical distancing protocols to ensure the safety of workers and customers. The amended public health order also allows additional outdoor activities to resume on Friday, including car parades (with participants remaining in their cars), outdoor museums, historical sites, and publicly accessible gardens. These businesses and activities must also have social distancing protocols in place to ensure the safety of workers and customers. Read the full revised order .

GAVILAN COLLEGE STATUS :
  • All locations of Gavilan College are closed, and all instruction and services are being provided in online format.The campus, including tennis courts, track, and golf course,is closed to the public
  • Summer registration is underway. Summer classes start June 15
  • Fall registration will begin on June 22
  • Graduation has been postponed until Fall 2020, tentatively to be scheduled by department December 19-21. Read letter from Dr. Rose
FALL 2020
  • Fall 2020 classes, services, and activities will be offered primarily online, except for those programs where licensing requirements or the nature of the matieral require face-to-face instruction.
  • When face-to-face instruction takes place, it will be in accordance with appropriate practices for sanitizing and social distancing in accordance with public health guidelines.
  • If classes have a synchronous component, that is,required online meetings at a specific day and time, these will be listed in the Fall schedule of classes so students may plan accordingly.
  • Registration for Fall classes will begin on June 22

NEW - Equity-Minded Mathematics Instruction
Thursday, May 21, 2020 from 12:00 - 1:30 p.m.
This webinar will include one or more math instructors from California and Colorado who have worked with CUE on developing pedagogical practices that are critically race conscious. This session will address: (1) traditional vs equity-minded conceptions of the ways in which math is done and thought about, (2) how to draw upon student’s knowledge, (3) noticing racialized patterns in data close to practice (gradebook and attendance mapping, designing homework problems), (4) engaging students conversations that focus on how they are experiencing the online environment.
