GCI Remaining School Classes
  • Plan A – Extend School Year – We are currently working with our school location partners to determine whether or not space will be available to extend the school year past April. Start and end dates will be determined when we receive clearance from the State and individual school locations.
  • Plan B - Virtual Instruction – The GCI staff is researching virtual meeting platforms such as Zoom and GoToMeeting to see if this is a viable delivery method for our instructors to continue classes in the event we are unable to brick and mortar spaces for the remainder of the school year.
  • Plan C - Online Classes Format – Construction related online courses are available through our partnership with Penn Foster as an option for 4th year or 5th year apprentices that are within 20 hours of completing their program in the following trades: Sheet Metal, Pipefitting and Sprinkler Fitting. We are continuing to research more online curriculum options for all trades and we have reached out to the state licensing boards asking for consideration allowing online classes during this crisis. More information to come.

Proactive Initiatives
  • The 2020-2021 GCI school year will include an “additional” 9 hours of class time to allow students an opportunity to earn more missing hours.
  • Ten of our electrical classes next year will be participating in the NCCER Accreditation beta test that will include online testing and a hands on performance evaluation as part of their school curriculum. Each student will receive a Chromebook from GCI to ensure all students have the capability to complete this program. The goal is to have all classes participating in the NCCER Accreditation program by 2021/2022.
