DHEC is closely monitoring a rapidly emerging national outbreak of novel coronavirus (COVID-19) and is continuing to investigate and respond to cases of the virus in South Carolina.

As part of our ongoing outreach efforts, we want to make sure that we continue to update you on the latest DHEC and CDC guidance.

This guidance is based on what is currently known about the transmission of  coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) .   We will update this guidance as needed and as additional information becomes available. This document is intended to be statewide guidance to help both businesses and employers make informed decisions.

In addition to checking DHEC’s website, please check the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)   website periodically for updated interim guidance from the CDC.

No additional precautions are recommended for the public at this time, beyond the simple daily precautions that everyone should always take to stop the spread of illness, including getting the flu vaccine, washing your hands, covering your cough, and appropriately disposing tissues and other items contaminated with respiratory droplets. Individuals with signs of illness should stay home. In line with CDC guidance, the department does not recommend closing schools or canceling public events at this time.  We would recommend that you review your emergency operations plan and continuity of operations to be sure that the information is current.

As we learn more, we will continue to update our main COVID-19 webpage and our Outreach Materials page. We have also posted COVID-19 information related to water management and retail food establishments .
Sincerely,

Myra Reece
