Dear Worcester Prep Community,

As we all try to adjust to our new normal of working from home, social distancing and online learning, I thought it might be helpful to offer some resources regarding health and wellness. We are all dealing with a situation that is changing and unpredictable, and that can increase our stress levels and anxiety. Although this can be a difficult time, I believe that we will get through this together and I remain hopeful that this challenge will strengthen our relationships with our families, students, friends and neighbors. It is often helpful during uncertain times to have access to both factual information and tangible strategies and resources to offer guidance.

As mentioned previously, the best sources for factual medical information about the COVID-19 virus include the CDC, local departments of Health, such as the Worcester County Health department and state specific guidance. Below are some links that you may find helpful.

In addition to steps we can practice to optimize our physical health, there are strategies and tips to improve our mental health and wellness.

  • Maintain a regular schedule as you develop your “new routine” of how the day will be structured.
  • Make sure you include physical activity, at least 30 minutes daily, and try to include time outdoors.
  • Continue to stay connected with family and friends through phone calls, text check-ins and facetime or Zoom.
  • Do something for someone else. This could include helping neighbors, your community, or the people who continue to work in essential fields.
  • Practice mindfulness. Meditation decreases inflammation and enhances immune function.

In terms of your children, below is a link to an article developed by the National Association of School Psychologists and the National Association of School Nurses that is informative and specific to families.

In closing, I have included some links below with information on family activities, exercise and mindfulness and an article on how to help manage anxiety in children.

I am here to help in any way that I can, please reach out to me with any questions or concerns. The best way to contact me is through my email, [email protected] .

Sincerely,
