COVID-19 | UPDATE
As you will have seen in the Bulletin which went out late last night and in the press article mentioned below, the MBSA, together with various industry bodies have put out an urgent appeal to the government to have construction assigned as an essential service and to allow construction sites that are currently in progress to immediately reactivate.
At this time, while we await the response from government, we would encourage our members to review the submission and the guidelines contained therein and commence planning for a reopening. Regardless of the outcome of the short term decision these are plans which will need to be formulated for the forseeable future.
We will continue to keep you informed as to any progress made in this regard.
PLEA FOR ASSISTANCE OF THOSE IN NEED
The COVID-19 lockdown has left many people in our communities (and indeed within our membership) destitute as they struggle to put food on their tables due to unemployment and/or lack of work. The MBAWC would like to appeal to all those who are in the fortunate position where they either have work or are able to provide for themselves to make an effort to contribute to the various relief funds which have been created to assist those in need.
Below is a link to an article which appeared in the digital platform of the lifestyle magazine, Wanted, where they have listed a number of these charities - some of which you can donate to via Snapscan as well as other electronic means.
There are, however, many, many needy causes - it's just about contributing - even a little goes a long way.
CONSTRUCTION SECTOR WANTS GOVT TO ALLOW THEM TO RETURN TO WORK
JOHANNESBURG - The construction industry is calling on government to allow the sector to return to work in a bid to ease the impact of the
on businesses and employees.
The COVID -19 Construction Rapid Response Task Team, which involves numerous associates and professionals in the industry, on Monday called for an immediate re-opening of live construction sites which were forced to shut down when the lockdown came into effect last month.
