COVID-19 Local Update
September 11, 2020
Remembering 19 Years Ago, September 11, 2001
Today marks the 19th year commemoration of the tragic September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on the United States. We are sharing a post from the Naval Postgraduate School (NPS) and the NPS Center for Homeland Defense & Security (CHDS) in remembrance of all those who lost their lives on that day and those whose lives were forever changed as a result of the attacks. Three NPS-CHDS alumni share their perspectives on the significance of this historic day and what it means for all of us as Americans. Thank you to NPS and CHDS for inviting us to listen to their messages and reflect on the importance of the day.
Featured Alumni include:
John Sudnik – Chief of Department, FDNY
Joseph A. Gallucci – Deputy Chief, Counterterrorism Bureau, NYPD
Charles Good – Captain, US Navy, Chair Surface Warfare, NPS

Wildfire Smoke Information, Resources and Air Quality
See airnow.gov to monitor air quality levels in your location.

To follow-up on yesterday's email about air quality, according to airnow.gov it looks like we wont' be out of the worst of the smokey skies until early next week. Check your favorite local weathercaster for details, and take care to stay inside as much as possible if the conditions warrant. The CDC also has an informative web page about wildfire smoke and COVID-19 - https://cdc.gov/disasters/covid-19/wildfire_smoke_covid-19.html
When air quality is poor the recommendation is to:
  • Stay indoors and keep windows closed
  • Reduce physical activity
  • Check on loved ones with lung & heart conditions
Please see mbard.org/wildfire-smoke-information-and-resources to learn more and airnow.gov to check local air quality.
