COVID-19 Local Update - in Brief
May 19, 2020
Countdown to June 3 - Monterey's 250th Birthday! Story Tellers!
Another repercussion of the pandemic is the cancellation of the fun, community-wide festivities planned to celebrate Monterey's 250th birthday on June 3 and all year long. To keep the significance alive, we reached out to the community a couple of months ago to ask for stories that have impacted our Monterey history. We've received some great stories that we are beginning to share! The first story by Tim Thomas, "How to Train an Abalone: Pop Ernest Doelter, the Abalone King" is just published at www.monterey.org/250years/Events - more stories will be published every few days.
Art Recreated Submissions! The Museum and Cultural Arts Office staff asked people to recreate paintings with stuff they find at home as a fun activity to do while sheltering at home with family. We are very excited to show the creative submissions received. Enjoy!
