FROM THE CITY OF MONTEREY
COVID-19 Local Update - in Brief
March 21, 2020
Welcome to the weekend after a pretty intense week for everyone. With several expected breaks in the welcome rain, it’s a good opportunity to get outside for some fresh air as long as you are maintaining safety with social distancing.

The City of Monterey wants to remind you that our City parks and trails are open, however our playgrounds, skate park, and campground are closed.

The Food Bank for Monterey County reports that donations are needed
  • They are accepting donations of food, either by drop off or local businesses can arrange for a pick up. The best contact number is (831) 758-1523. When arranging for pickup, they should ask for the Warehouse Manager, Mike.
  • They are primarily accepting nonperishables and refrigerated items from businesses (e.g,. dairy products, produce, etc.). However, if a business has a large amount of prepared food, the Food Bank will take it.

News from the State of California
On Saturday 3/21, the California Office of Emergency Services (OES) provided clarification that the California National Guard has activated (105) National Guard troops with the very specific mission of assisting at Food Banks to help with packaging food, hygiene, monitoring lines, setting up tents, and overall support.
This morning, the State updated its website with additional clarification on what “Staying home except for essential needs” means: https://covid19.ca.gov/stay-home-except-for-essential-needs/

Final Thoughts
We are working on updating the City web page, monterey.org/coronavirus with all the newest and important information.

Thank you all for doing your part and complying with the State and County’s County Stay at Home and Shelter in Place orders.

Together we will get through this!
