Governor Abbott's Recent Executive Orders

The Governor has assigned a Strike Force to lay out a plan to reopen Texas safely in phases. This is a balance of many factors, which will be addressed by the Strike Force. It is filled with Texans from many different parts of our medical community and economy.

Texas Begins to Open
Monday, April 27, Governor Abbott revealed his plan to Open Texas for business. This plan involves a reopening which will take place in phases. Phase 1 will begin on Friday, May 1.

During the Press Conference to introduce the Open Texas plan, the Governor specifically spoke about various business which could reopen under Phase 1. Some of those include, retailers, restaurants, movie theaters, museums and libraries, outdoor sports participants, churches/places of worship, and single-person offices.

Within the Open Texas report the Strike Force clearly documented percentage of occupancy during open hours, health protocols for customers and each entity. Phase 1 will remain in effect until Friday, May 15. Should spikes in COVID-19 occur, a reevaluation will be put in place to determine the next steps in re-opening Texas. If all goes well, moving into Phase 2, will be announced by Governor Abbott.

Ultimately, the Governor called on all Texans to do their part to Open Texas. He provided the latitude of freedom for Texans to choose to continue to stay at home if they felt unsafe and would be endangering their health if venturing out. At the same time, those who choose to go out are welcome to enjoy the businesses which will be open.
