During this COVID-19 crisis, you or someone you know may have experienced a form of telehealth. That is, you may have paid a visit to your doctor via video call, used a mobile medical app, or had your healthcare monitored remotely.
Now, Congress is considering relaxing some of the regulations of using this technology when assisting those with mental disorders, to allow time to find ways to increase access by removing bureaucratic barriers.
The Journal of the American Medical Association has found that one-third of adults with depression
have never been treated
.
Telehealth could finally provide an opportunity for many of these underserved individuals.
We at Paladin Life Care work with clients in mental decline on a daily basis. From our experience, we believe the time to embrace telehealth is truly here and has a significant role to play. It allows for continuity of care while improving efficiency and shows the potential to be as effective as face-to-face visits. In fact,
the
Journal of Clinical Psychiatry
found that that to be the case.
We hope you will join us in this worthwhile endeavor. Please don't hesitate to contact us for questions, or your lawmaker to voice your opinion!
