Support the COVID-19 Response Fund for Forsyth County!

As the impact of COVID-19 grows, many in our community are already feeling the effects of this unprecedented pandemic, and local nonprofits are just beginning to feel the strain of meeting the needs of local individuals and families experiencing job loss, school cancellations, health concerns, and mounting bills. Today we announced the COVID-19 Response Fund for Forsyth County to support local nonprofits assisting the people most affected by the coronavirus pandemic. The fund was launched at a joint news conference hosted by Mayor Allen Joines and is a partnership between United Way of Forsyth County , The Winston-Salem Foundation , the City of Winston-Salem , Forsyth County , and Community Organizations Active in Disaster .  Flexible grantmaking will be provided for immediate, emerging, and long-term needs to organizations working with communities who are disproportionately impacted by coronavirus and the economic consequences of the outbreak. For nonprofits interested in applying for a grant , an application process will be available on our website no later than March 27 .   The Winston-Salem Foundation has committed $100,000 to seed this effort, and within the past two days, we have received generous financial pledges from local governmental, corporate, and foundation partners. We’re now accepting individual donations and we ask that you continue to give to your favorite nonprofits in addition to supporting this critical fund. Additional Support for Local Nonprofits

In addition to our partnership on the COVID-19 Response Fund, the Foundation is providing additional support for the nonprofit community to assist organizations in adapting their business models to mitigate the impacts of the outbreak. NONPROFIT ADAPTATION GRANTS We are offering this support to organizations serving Forsyth County whose operations have been adversely impacted by COVID-19. This grant program assists organizations in adapting their business models to avoid or mitigate disruptions in their service delivery.  Organizations may apply for up to $5,000 for adaptation ideas on a rolling basis through April 30 by submitting a simple online form .

For organizations that have received a grant through the Foundation’s Community Grants, Black Philanthropy Initiative, or Women's Fund processes in the past five years, funding decisions will come within one week of application submission. Organizations that are not recent grantees will receive a decision within 2-3 weeks.  Following this first phase of funding, the Foundation will re-evaluate and determine future support for this purpose.  FLEXIBILITY FOR CURRENT GRANTEES We also recognize that current grantees may need to make changes to their grants, and our staff will be flexible in making those changes as needed.   Any current grantee that needs to request amendments to their funding restrictions, grant outcomes, or grant period should feel free to reach out to their program officer at a time that is helpful to you, and we will be ready to assist you. Questions?
