DISTANCE LEARNING

Dear Parents,

Thank you for supporting your children during the first phase of distance learning in Blaine County. We understand that districts and states are implementing distance learning in different ways and we always welcome new thoughts and ideas for how to improve as we continue distance learning. We have taken an approach that fits Blaine County and each decision is made with the voice of our principals who represent their staff while being mindful of District Policy 684 Grading and Reporting . This communication on grading and attendance was sent to all staff yesterday and we want you to be aware of it as well.

ATTENDANCE
During distance learning, student attendance is defined as: students engaged in some way during the week with learning . Attendance is being used in two ways:

  • For teachers and principals to track student engagement with learning
  • For reporting attendance to the Idaho Department of Education

Each Friday, teachers will take attendance for the whole week. If there was no contact with the student or family during the week, students will be marked absent for all five days of that week. There will not be notifications to parents for attendance during distance learning, and parents do not have to call the school to excuse the absence.

Teachers and/or principals will contact absent students who have not been engaging in distance learning to determine how they can better support these students.

Frequently asked questions can be found on the lower right hand side of the COVID-19 School Closure page on the website. Questions can be sent to clerk@blaineschools.org and the Superintendent and Board of Trustees will answer them. The questions and answers are updated frequently.
WHY IS EACH SCHOOL DOING THINGS DIFFERENTLY AS WE ROLL OUT DISTANCE LEARNING?
Question: Why is each school doing things differently as we roll out distance learning? 

Answer: Each school has a unique approach to distance learning based on grade levels, school size, special focus, etc. For example, when we start school each fall, all schools have open houses, but they are organized differently. As we roll out distance learning as a district, it will look different from school to school and teacher to teacher. This difference is expected. Each school operates from baseline guidance from the BCSD Learning Continuity Plan and makes adjustments given their students and their needs. The principals from each school are directing this process through their teachers as they prepare and provide learning activities for students to do at home.

Estimados padres de familia:

Gracias por apoyar a sus hijos durante la primera fase de aprendizaje a distancia en el condado de Blaine. Estamos conscientes que los distritos y los estados están implementando el aprendizaje a distancia de diferentes maneras, y por supuesto, siempre son bienvenidos nuevos conceptos e ideas sobre cómo mejorar a medida que continuamos con el aprendizaje a distancia. Hemos adoptado un enfoque que se ajusta al condado de Blaine y cada decisión ha se toma considerando la voz de nuestros directores quienes representan a su personal y tomando muy en cuenta la Política 684 del Distrito - Calificaciones e Informe (disponible solo en inglés). Este comunicado fue enviado a todo el personal ayer y queremos que usted también esté al tanto.

ASISTENCIA
Durante el aprendizaje a distancia, la asistencia estudiantil se define como: e studiantes involucrados, de alguna manera, con el aprendizaje durante la semana. La asistencia se usa de dos maneras:

  • Para que los maestros y directores realicen un seguimiento de la participación de los estudiantes con el aprendizaje.
  • Para informar la asistencia al Departamento de Educación de Idaho.

Cada viernes, los maestros tomarán asistencia para toda la semana. Si no hubo contacto con el estudiante o la familia durante la semana, los estudiantes se consideran ausentes y tendrán falta para los cinco días de esa semana. No habrá notificaciones para los padres en referencia a la asistencia durante el aprendizaje a distancia, y los padres no tienen que llamar a la escuela para justificar la ausencia.

Los maestros y/o directores se pondrán en contacto con los estudiantes ausentes quienes no hayan participado en el aprendizaje a distancia para determinar de qué forma pueden proporcionar un mejor apoyo a estos estudiantes.

PREGUNTAS FRECUENTES
Las preguntas frecuentes se pueden encontrar en la parte inferior derecha de la página de Cierre de escuelas por COVID-19 en el sitio web. Se pueden enviar preguntas a:  clerk@blaineschools.org , la Superintendente y la Junta Directiva las responderán. Las preguntas y respuestas se actualizan con frecuencia.
¿POR QUÉ CADA ESCUELA ESTÁ HACIENDO LAS COSAS DE MANERA DIFERENTE A MEDIDA QUE IMPLEMENTAMOS EL APRENDIZAJE A DISTANCIA?
Pregunta: ¿Por qué cada escuela está haciendo las cosas de manera diferente a medida que implementamos el aprendizaje a distancia?
 
Respuesta: Cada escuela tiene un enfoque único para el aprendizaje a distancia con base en los niveles de grado, tamaño de la escuela, enfoque especial, etc. Por ejemplo, cuando iniciamos clases cada otoño, todas las escuelas tienen jornadas de puertas abiertas, pero están organizadas de manera diferente. A medida que implementamos la educación a distancia como distrito, se verá diferente de escuela a escuela y de maestro a maestro. Se espera que haya esta diferencia. Cada escuela opera desde la guía básica del Plan de Continuidad de Aprendizaje del BCSD y realiza ajustes dé acuerdo con sus estudiantes y sus necesidades. Los directores de cada escuela están dirigiendo este proceso a través de sus maestros en lo que respecta a las actividades de aprendizaje que preparan y proporcionan para que los estudiantes realicen en casa.
