BOARD OF TRUSTEES STATEMENT

The Board of Trustees of the Blaine County School District is committed to transparency in dispatching its obligations to our students, parents, teachers, staff and community. To that end, I want to address some of the concerns that have been expressed by concerned members of the community.
On Saturday, March 14, 2020, within hours of learning that the first case of coronavirus had been confirmed in Blaine County, we made the decision to immediately close our school buildings. Given how fast the virus spread regardless, we can only imagine how much worse things would have been had we not acted so quickly. Immediately following the closure order, our leadership team began planning for distance learning. This district, from the time of its formation, has operated on the traditional classroom learning model. Transition from that model to an alternative program is not a simple matter. Furthermore, the highly contagious nature of this virus dictates that our distance learning plan will, to the greatest extent possible, ensure the safety of our students and staff during whatever period of time it will be in place.

WELCOME TO DISTANCE LEARNING
|
|
Distance learning begins this week. Teacher-student relationships are critical to learning. Teachers are excited to reconnect with students and will begin by contacting students personally, if they have not already. They will explain what distance learning will look like and what to expect moving forward. Also watch for Chromebook deployment schedules from your school(s) to know where, when and how to safely pick up student devices.
Parents, help us by making sure your contact information is updated in
Skyward
and contacting your school if you need help. If your student has not heard from their teacher by Tuesday, please call the school secretary.

FREE GRAB-N-GO LUNCH DISTRIBUTION - UPDATED LOCATIONS AND SCHEDULE

- Thanks to our extraordinary staff and volunteers, we are distributing over 500 lunches each day, Monday-Friday. See the updated schedule for locations and times. Thank you to our staff, volunteers and Sodexo for providing this essential service for our students!
- Free for all children 18 and under. Must be present to pick up food. Children do not need a parent with them. This is not a place to socialize or congregate. Children are encouraged to pick up lunch and take it home with them. Children do not need to qualify for free and reduced lunch for the Grab-N-Go lunch. This is open to everyone!

We know this may be a challenging time for students and families. School counselors, nurses, psychologists, and social workers are available to support students and families.
In an unusual event, sometimes it can be hard to tell if a child is reacting in a typical way or whether they are having real problems coping, and might need extra support. If you are concerned, talk to your child’s doctor or a mental health provider. Below are resources which may be helpful for parents:

Neighbors Helping Neighbors is bridging community connections through innovative 'boots on the ground' support and outreach. They offer 24-hour support. La Junta de Directiva del Distrito Escolar del Condado de Blaine tiene un gran
compromiso con la transparencia en el desempeño de sus acciones relacionadas con sus obligaciones hacia nuestros estudiantes, padres, maestros, personal y nuestra comunidad. Con ese fin, quiero abordar algunas de las inquietudes expresadas por miembros preocupados de la comunidad.
El sábado 14 de marzo de 2020, a pocas horas después de enterarnos de que el primer caso de coronavirus había sido confirmado en el condado de Blaine, tomamos la decisión de cerrar de inmediato los edificios de nuestras escuelas. Dada la rapidez con que se propagó el virus, podemos solo imaginar cuánto peor habrían sido las cosas si no hubiéramos actuado tan rápido. Inmediatamente después de la orden de cierre, nuestro equipo de liderazgo comenzó a planificar el aprendizaje a distancia. Este distrito, desde el momento en que fue fundado, ha operado utilizando el modelo tradicional de aprendizaje en salones de clases. La transición de ese modelo a un programa alternativo no es una cuestión simple. BIENVENIDOS AL APRENDIZAJE A DISTANCIA

El aprendizaje a distancia comienza esta semana. Las relaciones profesor-alumno son fundamentales para el aprendizaje. Los maestros están entusiasmados de volver a conectarse con los estudiantes e iniciarán contactándose con los estudiantes personalmente, si es que aún no lo han hecho. Salud Mental
