COVID-19 Special Education Update
Virtual ARD Meeting Procedures
In the wake of the COVID-19 crisis, school districts are turning to alternative means to conduct required ARD meetings, including through videoconferencing or teleconferencing. Conducting ARD meetings through virtual platforms presents new and unique challenges for districts that strive to maintain compliance with requirements of the IDEA and state law.

To address these challenges, we have developed Virtual ARD Procedures for use by special education personnel. These procedures provide a guide for steps and considerations in conducting ARD meetings in a virtual environment. While the procedures are generally applicable to all virtual ARD meetings, if you have specific questions or concerns regarding the method utilized by your district in conducting ARD meetings, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Updated COVID-19 Special Education FAQs
Previously, we developed a set of FAQs to address questions and feedback received from our clients regarding issues related to special education and Section 504 during extended school closures. Since development of these FAQs, the Texas Education Agency and the U.S. Department of Education have issued further guidance regarding the education of students with disabilities during the COVID-19 crisis. We have updated the FAQs with information regarding the additional guidance issued by these agencies.

As always, we are available to provide assistance if you have questions regarding the implications of this information for your district's specific situation.
