News from the Town of Bethany Beach: Beach & Boardwalk to open on Friday (May 15th) for exercising/walking only
A Message from the Town of Bethany Beach: On March 21st, the Town of Bethany Beach, following the Governor's 3rd Emergency Declaration, closed the beach and boardwalk to all pedestrian traffic.

In light of the shift from complete closure to limited beach access along the Delmarva coast, and yesterday’s announcement from Rehoboth Beach that they will open their beach and boardwalk to walking and exercise, beginning Friday, May 15th, 2020, the Town of Bethany Beach will open the boardwalk and beach to pedestrian traffic Friday at 12:01 AM.

To be clear: the Governor’s order closing State beaches is still in effect, but the Town of Bethany Beach is now allowing exercising/walking on the beach and boardwalk (as allowed at municipal discretion in the Governor’s Order). No other activity will be allowed on Bethany’s beach or boardwalk.

In addition, the Bethany Beach Town Code prohibits dog walking on its beach and boardwalk from May 15th until September 30th. That prohibition will go into effect Friday, May 15th at 12:01 AM.

DelDOT Traffic Alert: Closure of Frankford School Road for the replacement of crossroad pipe
Frankford -- Location: Frankford School Road will be closed between Shockley Town Road and Omar Road, Frankford.

Times and Dates: 7:00 a.m. on May 26, 2020 until 3:00 p.m. on June 5, 2020, pending weather.

Traffic Information: DelDOT announces to motorists that Frankford School Road will be closed for the removal and replacement of a crossroad pipe.

Crossroad pipes carry water from one side of the road to the other. A significant number of these are corrugated metal pipes that will eventually corrode through and develop holes in the pipes. Once holes start to form, the fill dirt on the outside of the pipe that supports the road can be lost into the pipe. This can create a sink hole in the road and may cause the pipe to collapse if the crossroad pipe is not replaced. Once the pipe starts to collapse, the structure can no longer safely carry vehicular traffic and/or properly transport the water flow through the pipes. The deteriorated corrugated metal pipes are replaced with either reinforced concrete or plastic pipes.

Detour Route:

Motorists will take Frankford School Road onto Shockley Town Road to Pyle Center Road onto Omar Road and return to Frankford School Road.

Detour signage will be posted for motorists.
