Happy Friday. Today brings to a close a very unusual week, one that has seen more changes than I would have imagined only a month ago. I am proud to be a part of the Gavilan College community, and inspired by the way faculty, staff, and students have risen to the challenge of this new situation. We have more work to do, but remain committed to the safety, health, and success of all of our students.

Gov. Newsom late Thursday announced a stay-at-home order to all of California. The order asks residents to stay home or at their place of residence unless it’s an essential need. You can read the full order here. To learn more about what qualifies as an essential need, click this link. This order is in place until further notice.
Federal Work Study (FWS) - Students receiving Federal Work study will continue to be paid. Federal law includes a provision allowing an institution to make FWS payments under certain limited circumstances to disaster-affected students who are unable to continue working.
The Chancellor's Office has also launched a Student Resource Webpage. Some common questions are answered there. Keep checking the site as it is updated daily.
College practitioners can find COVID-19 resources, information, and community within the Vision Resource Center. Create an account or log in. California has launched a website to provide useful COVID-19 information to all state residents. It highlights critical steps people can take to stay healthy and includes public service announcements from state health leaders.
