Local emergency declaration extended through April 24
Testing in N. Sarasota set for April 21
Upon consultation with Mayor Jen Ahearn-Koch and City Attorney Bob Fournier, City Manager Tom Barwin extended the local public health emergency for one week through Friday, April 24.

The emergency order reiterates that residents and visitors are strongly urged to wear protective masks when in public and to continue to adhere to CDC social distancing guidelines. Those who have not already acquired protective masks are urged to do so, as local, state or federal directives may require them when leaving home.

The Florida Department of Health announced today a second neighborhood testing session will be held by appointment only for North Sarasota residents on Tuesday, April 21 . The announcement follows the first testing in North Sarasota today with all 30 appointments filled.

Anyone currently experiencing symptoms (fever, cough or shortness of breath) or works in in a health care setting is eligible for testing. T o make an appointment please call 941-861-2883 Monday - Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Callers will be screened using CDC testing criteria.

Open:

Fishing piers, dog parks and outdoor spaces remain open to the public. Proper social distancing, as directed by the CDC, must be followed with no gatherings of 10 people or more.

The Sarasota Police Department is providing public safety services around the clock and will respond to emergency calls as usual. For other non-emergency calls, Chief DiPino has instituted a temporary Telephone Reporting Unit that will be operated by a sworn officer daily from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Closed:

Boat ramps, Bird Key Park parking lot, parks facilities and amenities, including playgrounds, basketball courts and tennis courts, are closed.

All shows at the Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall are canceled through May 3. Staff are working diligently to reschedule shows. Visit www.VanWezel.org for updates.

All City of Sarasota buildings are closed to the public. Most operations and services are continuing with staff working remotely and a limited number of employees on-site.
