Community-based testing scheduled for N. Sarasota May 15

The Florida Department of Health in Sarasota County will conduct another round of community-based COVID-19 drive-thru testing for North Sarasota residents from 8 a.m. to noon Friday, May 15 , at Bethlehem Bible Church, 1680 18th St .

The testing event is for individuals with an appointment and currently experiencing symptoms (fever, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, chills, repeated shaking with chills, muscle pain, headache, sore throat, recent loss of taste or smell) or those who work in a health care setting .

To be evaluated and scheduled for an appointment, call 941-861-2883 Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Callers will be screened using current CDC testing criteria.

This round of testing is being held in in cooperation with Bethlehem Bible Church (Rev. Patrick Miller), Suncoast Women of Action (Helen James, president and vice-president Glenda Green), and Trinity Christian Fellowship Center (Rev. Vincent Smith III).

A state drive-thru testing site is also open daily at the Mall at University Town Center for residents in Sarasota and Manatee counties. Testing is available for anyone over the age of 18 regardless of symptoms and will take place seven days per week from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. or until daily testing capacity is reached.

Open:

Boat ramps, fishing piers, dog parks and outdoor spaces remain open to the public. Proper social distancing, as directed by the CDC, must be followed with no gatherings of 10 people or more.

Payne Park Tennis Center is scheduled to reopen Friday, May 15 at 8 a.m. with limited hours.

The Sarasota Police Department is providing public safety services around the clock and will respond to emergency calls as usual. For other non-emergency calls, Chief DiPino has instituted a temporary Telephone Reporting Unit that will be operated by a sworn officer daily from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Closed:

Lido Beach, Bird Key Park parking lot, parks facilities and amenities, including playgrounds and basketball courts, are closed.

All shows at the Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall are canceled through June 15. Staff are working diligently to reschedule shows. Visit www.VanWezel.org for updates.
