Grace and peace to you, siblings in Christ.
Last night, the congregation council met and adopted a policy for re-gathering in person at Ascension.
The policy addresses
how
we will gather again. It does
not
specify
when
we will gather again in person.
As you know, we have canceled all in-person gatherings through at least this Sunday, May 31. On Saturday, May 30, the NC Synod Council will be meeting to discuss proposals from the synod task force and their decisions will be shared over the weekend. Then congregation council presidents, pastors and deacons have meetings on Tuesday and Wednesday to discuss regathering.
Ascension's congregation council will be meeting again next Wednesday, June 3 to discuss the timing of any regathering plans.
We will worship online on Trinity Sunday, June 7. On that day, the NC Synod has invited congregations to worship together, with the ELCA's Presiding Bishop Elizabeth Eaton preaching. I will facilitate our Zoom call and a Facebook Watch Party at our regular worship time, 10:30 Sunday morning. There will be more information in the June 3 e-news.
Regardless of the timeline, it is important to know that when we gather again in person,
worship will be different
. While
the policy
provides details about what will be possible and what won't, I also filmed this 4 minute video in our sanctuary so that you can see what it will look like to worship together in person. Please watch.
